If you love history and old architecture this is the place for you. It is wonderful to see how many of the old colonial style buildings have been lovingly restored and put back in use rather than simply being demolished, as has happened in so many other Asian cities and towns.
Sadly many are still in a state of disrepair and dilapidation, and it really would be great if the Malaysian Government took on the necessary restoration works, or gave grants to investors to restore them.
There's so much to see and experience you'll need a full week at least to really appreciate everything.

We walked to most of the major sites.
We walked to most of the major sites. The town felt safe and everyone we encountered was friendly. Opening hours did sometimes vary from published info so always check. Searching out the street art was a main highlight. Some of the murals are showing their age however.
Pavements were never level and trip hazards were everywhere so you need to be careful.
Restaurants were plentiful and there are lots of choices. We enjoyed Lagenda and Tek Sen.

Georgetown is really good, especially if you like food and art and great architecture. Lots of little streets and lanes with galleries, small bars and eateries to discover.
All pretty friendly and cheerful locals as well, and I felt very safe, which is a biggy for the girls out there!
Chulia St or Love Lane is where to go if you want a few drinks, although there are plenty of very cool little places in the streets and lanes behind as well - just walk and discover.

George Town is a good spot to visit.
George Town is a good spot to visit. There are many things to see. I particulary like Fort Cornwallis which is a must see.
The Red Garden is a set of hawker street food vendors. Certainly worth a vist to experience the vast array of foods available and at local prices. Highly recommended.
To get around, I would recommend downloading the "GRAB" app which is a local driver app (like Uber) but you can either pay in cash or by card. Drivers are all licensed by the state and is a very safe way to get around town. DO NOT take a regular taxi, they are run of the mill taxis who will try to rip you off if they can.

A very frequent place I come to work and retreat. It maintains it's unique charm that you have to come experience yourself. No matter how much I complain about the place, traffic especially, I always leave with a heavy heart.

The hotel location was central of George town main streets and excellent. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, the staff gave us a very detailed introduction to sightseeing in Penang. In addition to that, they prepared a packed lunch box for breakfast since they knew that we would depart early in the morning the next day as well as they sent our parcel at the post office, which was not originally included in hotel service. They also handled the early morning airport drop off for us.
This was my forth stay here. It is without doubt my hotel of choice. Modern, comfortable and very good value. The hotel is well placed to see most of the important sights of George Town. Great cafes and restaurants nearby. I had a room with a balcony - easy to get fresh air if you want it. The aircon worker well and the shower was perfection. If you want comfort to come home to after the heat of the day this is a great choice.
The hotel is conveniently located near Komtar, making it easy to explore the vibrant streets of George Town. There are plenty of great restaurants and shops within walking distance.
My room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. I loved the modern decor and the bed was incredibly cozy, ensuring a good night’s sleep.
