FAQs about hotels in Mexico City

Aztec Capital and Vibrant Metropolis

As one of the biggest cities in the world, Mexico City could be better described as an experience than a city. Founded in 1325 by the Aztecs as Tenochtitlan, it was both destroyed and rebuilt by the Spanish in the 16th century. Nowadays, it is the capital of the United Mexican States and its most important economic and cultural center.

The city center’s cornerstone is the famous Plaza de la Constitución, commonly called Zócalo. It's surrounded by the presidential Palacio Nacional and the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Avenida de la Reforma was built under the brief rule of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, while the deposed president Porfirio Díaz left a characteristic fusion of French-Mexican architecture. The 1960s saw a demographic explosion that only now is starting to be completely absorbed.

From the Chapultepec Parks and the chic Polanco, to the gay area of Zona Rosa and the Bohemian and intellectual Coyoacán: let Mexico City tell you its thousand secrets and stories.

Most of the hotels are located around the Reforma area, the Insurgentes Avenue and the Zócalo. If you’re looking for 5-star hotels in Mexico City, the modern Santa Fe area has a recently redeveloped business sector.

Very crowded especially in busses and in the park but it's fun with good music. The market we did some shopping too. Hop on hop off bus we were able to see part of the city with beautiful high rise buildings. Very friendly and helpful Mexican especially with our limited spanish they can grasp that we need direction. Weather was good while we were there and have fun with the 3 of us.

One of the most people and tourist friendly cities we have...

One of the most people and tourist friendly cities we have visited. It is filled with museums, history both recent and early, shopping of all kinds, and of course food. There are many parks with play areas for children. Michelin restaurants are everywhere, in addition to street food. Besides the obvious sights like the Sun and Moon pyramids, one can spend whole days in barrios like Roma, La Condesa, Coyocuan, Polanco, just walking around and seeing the architecture, visiting boutique shops and eateries, just enjoying the parks and the roadside sculptures. Walking through any of the Mercados is easily a 1/2 day experience. Zocalo, the city centre, a huge plaza near the Presidential Palace, is always buzzing with activity. The Anthropological Museum is a must see - it takes two days to see thoroughly. The museum is worth visiting just for its cafe - we had probably the best food at this cafe. we traveled mostly by Uber, but the subway system is quite extensive. Mexico City is a very big city that seems small because there is so much to see and experience all around. It's a walker's paradise in that sense - you don't have to go anywhere, just walk around the neighborhood!! Minor word of caution - some museums like Frida Kahlo's, and almost all the fancy restaurants require prior reservation!!

Great location to central square (Zocalo) and historico area and 5 min from Metro, 15 - 20 min walk from Alameda park. Good local restaraunts - Azul Historico (recommend booking), El Mayor and Centro Castelano (though a little pricey especially the wine)

I had an incredible time exploring Mexico City as a solo...

I had an incredible time exploring Mexico City as a solo traveller. The walking tours were fantastic and allowed me to discover the rich history and vibrant culture of the area. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, making the experience even more enjoyable. Museums like the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the National Museum of Art were definite highlights, showcasing stunning architecture and impressive collections. I especially appreciated that many museums are free on Sundays, making art and culture accessible to everyone. Another great feature is the metro card, which provides convenient access to all the buses and subways, as well as public rental bikes. This made getting around the city both easy and affordable, allowing me to explore different neighborhoods without any hassle. The cocktail scene and overall nightlife were lively and diverse, with plenty of trendy bars and clubs to choose from. I relished the delicious tacos and local foods throughout my stay, each meal offering a unique taste of the city’s culinary delights. However, I was struck by the number of homeless individuals in the city, which was concerning and something I hadn't anticipated. Additionally, most souvenirs seemed to be made in China, which was disappointing; I wish I could have found a unique sticker or local craft to take home as a memento. Overall, Mexico City offers a vibrant and enriching experience, with its cultural attractions and nightlife shining brightly. While there are certainly areas for improvement, my time in this dynamic city was truly memorable.

We have travelled a lot and been to some stunning locations. We were taken back by Mexico. How accomodating the place is. How polite the people are, especially to English speakers. Travel in Mexico is easy despite the size of the city. It is clean and we felt safe. Above all else, use your common sense.

The location can’t be beat, right where you want to be when visiting Mexico City. La Condesa/Roma is where it’s at with people, restaurants, cafes, and some of the most beautiful parks in DF and a neighborhood full of architectural gems, including many Art Deco apartment buildings. So I loved it! That being said, the room I booked at the hotel was on the small side, and while the bed was very comfortable, the pillows were hard and gave me a headache. I mentioned to staff when leaving and I hope they correct this

Really nice, modern apartment. Love the area. 4-5 food stands across the road and close to bars and restaurants. A/C can be hard to find in Mexico City especially at this price point and worked well. Shared rooftop area has a nice jacuzzi. Security staff downstairs were fantastic and helped us store our luggage for a few hours as we were between hotels. Best shower I’ve had in Mexico even if the water took a while to get hot, but it eventually always did. Consistently good wifi.

The hotel doesn’t look like much from the street or the lobby, but the room was large and comfortable. The location just four short blocks from the center of Mexico City is its best selling point. This is a no frills, very inexpensive hotel with a very convenient location.
