Sliema is a great base for exploring Malta.
Sliema is a great base for exploring Malta. The ferries go to Valletta every 30 minutes, and it takes 10 mins to get there. We also travelled to Valletta by bus, and Uber from Sliema.
We walked to St Julians one evening which took around 30 mins.
From Sliema we booked a boat trip to Gozo & Comino, I would also recommend adding the bus tour of Gozo.
We went on a walking food tour of Valletta which we booked through Get Your Guide which was the favourite part of our stay.
There are great bars and restaurants in Sliema - Gormet bar & Grill was a hit for food & cocktails, we also liked The Londoner, and had some nice food in Med Asia fusion.

Really beautiful and not too north or too south which allowed me to visit everywhere without it feeling like a trek! Although, Malta is very small so where you stay doesn't matter too too much. But Sliema is great, I felt very safe.

There are a good variety of restaurants and a large shopping mall that is easy to walk to. Public transportation and ferry service is easy to access. Great view of Valletta from shoreline. A negative would be when it rains it floods and the drainage is horrible. Don't bother to rent a car as the traffic is also hectic and again the public transport is very good at a reasonable price.

I was here to help at the theatre, so the hotel was really close. I was also working at the University of Malta. The B & B is about 10 mins in a Bolt.
Sliema is very central to most things and buses are very frequent,
I don't find it as appealing as Valletta or Mellieha (where the sandy beaches are) and quieter.
Lots of bars and restauarants though.
Everything you could need, though not particularly picturesque. Ferries everywhere, and a regular Ferry to Valletta till late.
