Hotels near Omishima

Wakka was hands-down our absolute favourite hotel during our 3 week holiday. We wish we'd stayed longer there, it's so special. We stayed in a geodesic dome tent right by the water, which was incredible. The tent was well-stocked with a cooler, air conditioning, and storage space, as well as a lovely little private patio. We had to use the shared bathroom and shower room, but that was no problem for us. There is a large Family Mart about 1 km away from the site with everything you could need. We had biked the Shimanami Kaido from Onamichi and were exhausted and sweaty and gross when we arrived. The reception staff welcomed us in with cool towels and iced tea, and helped us get oriented and organized, making suggestions for dinner and activities. Tip: Wakka offers a lot of services, from bike rentals to excursions to meals, and it is worth checking out their website to see what you can add to your stay. For example, their rental bikes looked really nice compared to the ones we rented in Onamichi! We wish we had known more about what they offer beyond what's on Booking.com. This is a full-service facility that even non-paying guests can use (e.g. if you're cycling by, you can stop for a drink at their cafe, or get air for your bike tires, or just rest on their lawn). Really, really wonderful place.

This was our favourite hotel we stayed in whilst in Japan. It was really well presented. It felt more like a Day Spa than a hotel room. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely stay here again

The room was beautiful and the architecture was stunning. The staff were lovely and really helpful. The Onsen in their sister hotel was amazing and perfect after a long day’s cycle! The restaurant in the hotel was incredible and some of the best food we’ve eaten in Japan!

Sayomi was such a kind and generous host. The food she cooked was amazing (and plentiful) and we enjoyed staying in a traditional Japanese house. Sayomi also helped us to arrange the transport. We loved the massage chair.

Very good location, practical to dry off after a very rainy cycle, comfortable sleep

This is a delightful boutique hotel with exceptional service, right on the Onemichi-Imabari bike trail and the beach. The owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, presenting us with drinks of fresh local orange juice, helping us with dinner and, by themselves, making the stay very memorable. The rooms were exquisite, with one in traditional style and the other with a sofa and 4 bunk beds. We were a family of 5 cycling with children from 11 up and we wanted to break the cycle ride from Onemichi, having read about it in a Financial Times article from before COVID. The hotel is about two thirds of the way through (49km out of 76km), making it a perfect point and making day 2 manageable after the day 1 exertions. (More serious cyclists have plenty of options to add distance to their rides.). The ride is easy to organise — we left most of our luggage in a coin locker at Onomichi station (there are more lockers in a unit in the square by the station), we collected reserved bikes at 7am, jumped on a ferry and started to explore the islands - citrus growing, ship building, rice fields, amazing bridges etc.

Being halfway through the Shimanami Kaido this was a comfortable overnight stay. The hosts were helpful and spoke good english. Also, there was copious amounts of free strong iced barely tea in the fridge .

We loved this House and the location is unique! The pictures of this property are exactly as the property it is. To be honest we could not believe how beautiful the view was the following morning, even while the rain was coming down in buckets. We were cycling from Onomichi (the Shimanami Kaido cycling road) and as we arrived on Ikuchi island we were recommended by the host even a place to eat out in Sedato town. The host was accommodating and answered promptly. We got a bit lost in trying to find the house due to the fact it was dark and it was raining. When we arrived we were very pleased to see that the host left some food in the kitchen and drinks in the fridge. But what left us speechless was their kindness. We arrived later than we originally wanted and we were soaked from the rain. I messaged the host to let them know we found the property and we arrived. They went to the trouble of going to the KFC 30 min away and brought us dinner. We had never had anyone do that for us anywhere we stayed before. They brought us ponchos as well! We were speechless with the care and hospitality received. There was Coke cola, water and fruit juice in the fridge left for us. As well as noodle pots, butter, jam, and bread. There is bread bread-making machine and we saw the kit left and instructions so we could make our bread. Since the shops are not within walkable distance there is a cabinet right next to the front door as you walk in which has a sign on it saying SHOP. You can take anything out of the cabinet and put the money in a little container left on top of the cabinet. We loved our stay and we decided next time we went back to Japan, we would book for more than one night. A few days would just be amazing to chill in this home on the waterfront.
