We stayed in this hotel after long day riding our bicycles. Ryokan is located on the hill, overlooking the village.
Beautiful view from the Onsen. Slightly outdated place, but has all the amenities one needs, and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. Meals were very nice!

My partner and I stayed at the Alaskan Dream Guesthouse during our weekend getaway at Sandankyo. The location is phenomenal for hiking and the guesthouse is conveniently located within a 10 minute walk to the beginning of the hiking trail. The room was also lovely - very clean and equipped with a much needed AC unit. The host, Big Bear, was incredibly kind and welcoming, and offered to make us breakfast and dinner as there aren’t any supermarkets nearby - and all that with a broken leg no less! Made from fresh vegetables grown in the area, the food was a huge treat. Big Bear also gave advice on the area, pointing out what times are best for the hike and which way to go. Overall, if you would like a quiet place away from the city and some guidance from a friendly English-speaking host, then this place is for you!
