The room, although large, was poorly designed and did not make good use of the the space. For example, there was no space beside the main beds, meaning one had to crawl over the bed to get to the pilliows. The very small space above the bed (because of the loft/beds above) meant that if you tried to get up during the night, you could bang your head on the low ceiling (if you forgot to crawl out).

The room was a great size, beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. This hotel is close to the port, which is why we booked it. It's also close to shops and restaurants. They make you fresh rice balls for breakfast, which was wonderful and they were delicious. Would happily stay here again, very good value for money.

The island area near the resort has very few restaurants unless you want to drive 40 minutes into town. (The same holds true for a grocery store, you really have to go into town.) The villa area does however have a magnificent cave nearby that you must explore! And the beaches are fabulous.

The snorkelling is excellent, so if you just go for that and stay near that area it may be fine. The main city and suburbs is pretty run down. The day trip to a smaller island was worth doing. Would I go there from Australia? We are a bit spoilt in Australia, so I probably wouldn't rush there, but if you're in Japan already it might be worth 3 or 4 days there yes.

Ishigaki (and Taketomi island - a short ferry ride away) is (are) wonderfully peaceful and quiet. The beaches on Taketomi are beautiful and almost deserted. Getting around (Ishigaki) is by rental car and I cannot recommend Ishigakijimaarun Car Rental more highly (arunco.co). The owner -- who speaks excellent English - could not have been nicer, friendlier and was incredibly generous and helpful. I said my two nights were just right as it served as an introduction to these southern Okinawan Islands. To really retreat and get away from it all you might want to spend longer! Taketomi is tiny and I went there for one day and rented a bicycle.

Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island.
Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. We hired a car to explore the whole island.

Tip: 1) avoid the buses as most as you can! Bikerentals are awesome! Maesato beach belongs to a hotel but day guests are welcome, just follow the signs on the property.
Tip 2) Definitely take a ferry to Taketomi, rent a bike there
Tip 3) Taxi to airport is about 3500 yen
Tip 4) Find out when rain season is

Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. Took a very enjoyable day trip to Taketomi Island.

The staff was friendly and welcoming and speak very good English. The room was clean and comparatively large and the bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent and for even more variety you have the option to choose between breakfast in this hotel and the sister hotel called The Breakfast Hotel Marche.
The hotel is in walking distance to Ishigaki's main shopping district and the port (good for hopping to one of the other islands).
Great location in the centre of town with many restaurants and shops nearby. The rooms were clean and comfortable and many complimentary amenities were provided, even including beauty face masks. The manager of the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful and even came to the hotel after hours to check on any issues. We would like to say thank you to him for his excellent service!
Staff was amazing, always kind and willing to help. We got stuck indoor because of a typhoon and they made all they could to make the stay still pleasant. Plus, the hotel provided a lot of amenities for free and different giveaways - including drinks. Breakfast was also very good.
Really good hotel, nice and relaxing. We ate one night at the Yakiniku restaurant the food quality and service was great. We had the buffet breakfast included in our room price and it was very good.
