Wakka was hands-down our absolute favourite hotel during our 3 week holiday. We wish we'd stayed longer there, it's so special. We stayed in a geodesic dome tent right by the water, which was incredible. The tent was well-stocked with a cooler, air conditioning, and storage space, as well as a lovely little private patio. We had to use the shared bathroom and shower room, but that was no problem for us. There is a large Family Mart about 1 km away from the site with everything you could need.
We had biked the Shimanami Kaido from Onamichi and were exhausted and sweaty and gross when we arrived. The reception staff welcomed us in with cool towels and iced tea, and helped us get oriented and organized, making suggestions for dinner and activities. Tip: Wakka offers a lot of services, from bike rentals to excursions to meals, and it is worth checking out their website to see what you can add to your stay. For example, their rental bikes looked really nice compared to the ones we rented in Onamichi! We wish we had known more about what they offer beyond what's on Booking.com. This is a full-service facility that even non-paying guests can use (e.g. if you're cycling by, you can stop for a drink at their cafe, or get air for your bike tires, or just rest on their lawn). Really, really wonderful place.

Location was right near the train station & cycle hire stores. The staff were friendly & organised luggage forwarding for us. The room was comfortable. Even though the train runs right past, there was very little noise.

A new hotel, very clean, nice design, a superb hot pool (open until 2am), plenty of choice for breakfast (mostly Japanese food but also croissants and bread). Kids loved the free gifts they received upon check in. The food in the restaurant for dinner was good too.

When we booked we thought we were staying inImabari city.
When we booked we thought we were staying inImabari city. Because the address of Wakka is Imabari rather than Omishima island. So our only view of Imabari city was from train station and bus. Foreigners Need to know that you have to catch a bus to get from Imabari city to Wakka.

I have been to Imabari twice.
I have been to Imabari twice. Both times after cycling from Onomichi.
It was summer and very hot.
The town itself is not bustling. Castle is worth a visit. The shopping arcades in town are run down and lot of shops closed. I did not visit other areas of town so do not know if there were very nice areas where people hang out.
As a stop to visit the islands its has a port where you can catch the ferries and we took one with our bikes on our first trip to go back to Onimichi, or the island next to the town and cycle from there. Gateway to other cities on the island good transport links.

I stayed in Imabari the night before I cycled the Shimanami Kaido cycling route. Overall not my favorite place in Japan. It seemed like some people there are not accustomed to foreigners especially at the onsen I went to. It's a pretty small place so it's easy to get around with a bicycle. It seemed most stores close pretty early. I remember the whole town being very quiet.

we stayed at Imabari especially to cycle the Shimanami highway which was brilliant. Easy to hire bikes and a beautiful cycle ride along the highway, over the bridges which join all the islands. But there is not much else to do in Imabari
