The staff helped me alot with ordering a pizza which i could not do alone. The hotel design was a bit old school and the room was a bit small. But it answered all our needs, so no problem there!

Nice location, about a five minute walk from Aomori station, and near the nebuta museum, a-factory, and things along the coast. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was awesome. 10/10 shower. Room size was pretty standard for Japan. Also had a really great restaurant attached to it.

We went solely to visit the Aomori Museum of Art, and in particular the work of Munakata, a local post-war woodblock artist. We had researched opening times before making our travel arrangements in Japan, but we only learned after we arrived that the Museum was completely closed 'for the preparations for the next exhibition' from 30 September to 4 November 2024 (notice posted 1 October!). So we had nothing planned. Fortunately, the Nebuta festival Museum was terrific, we found a good little cafe and there were crafts to buy (many apple products). So we managed to pass the time agreeably, but would not have gone if we'd known. It might be different if you are going for the snow or the Nebuta.

Definitely a walkable city.
Definitely a walkable city.
The habrour area is relaxing and peaceful and if you're lucky you'll come across a music festival or two. However like most other rural places in Japan most shops close early however ther are still a decent amount of izakayas for the night owls. Would highly recommend breakfast or lunch at Furukawa Market Gyosai Centre for a seafood donbori as well as checking out the cute cafes in the area.
The Nebuta Museum is a must as it is Aomori's staple Festival to marvel at the huge floats. It's also the perfect acitvity to get out of the heat in Japan's humid summer.
If you prefer to just explore the seaside prominade offers a relaxing stroll while the side streets provide some cool photography spaces for urban photos.
For more culture check out the Showa Daibutsu Buddah. This is outside of the city centre but the surrounding rice fields and forest contrasts against the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Staff are friendly and can communictae well enough in English. The place is also not crowded with tourists so it is still somewhat of a hidden gem.
Aomori is also the perfect based from which to take daytrips to the surrounding areas such as the coast and mountains.

Aomori City does not have a lot apart from th Nebuta museum and the art Musuem but it's a pleasant city and the bus service is excellent.
From Aomori City there are plenty of day trips to make either by train or by car. Such as Hirosaki castle, Hirosaki Art Museum, the Gone line to Juniko & bus to Aoike, many spas like at Asamushi or around Mount Habkkoda.
The tourist office is very well organised and friendly.
You could spend a whole week to see the whole prefecture u=in detail.
Will go back to explore the Pacific Coast next time.

There wasn’t much to see and I’d skip next time and head straight to Hakodate or Sapporo. We stayed after riding the Resort Shirakami train to Hirosake to see the castle. Most of the restaurants were closed and we could not find a place for dinner. We grabbed snacks at the convenience store. We had to take a local train to the Shinkansen the next day which added to our trip.

The San'nai-Murayama Stone Age village museum site on the outskirts of Aomori was amazing, with many fully reconstructed thatched dwellings; very atmospheric!
Slightly further south west of the town is the spectacular Hirosaki Castle, with arguably the best cherry blossom display in Japan, (mid April).
Framing almost every photo there will be the astonishing Mount Iwaki, which looms sheer out of the landscape behind the castle. Easily as stunning as Fuji.
The coast road to the west of Aomori is beautiful and rugged, with a shoreline onsen pool at Fukaora.
Aomori has the best seafood anywhere south of Hokkaido. Try the uni!

My family and I spent two nights in Aomori at the Daiwa Roynet Hotel. The location was excellent -- centrally located and a close walk to everything we needed. The rooms were pretty typically sized compared to the rest of our hotels in Japan -- not roomy, but it worked well. We didn't spend that much time in the room! The staff was very courteous. I would recommend.
The location was excellent. The town itself is also very quaint and calming. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Always willing to assist even though my Japanese is very poor. There was also a lot of advertising in the accommodation of what was going on locally which was really nice.
Lobby was very spacious with art pieces aroynd. Staff was friendly and helpful. Even when car park was full they made extra reserved space for us. Very clean as per high Japanese standard. Location was a little away from central station which is 15 to 20 min walk away.
Great breakfast with Japanese and Western Options! Located close to the station and close to bus stops that go straight to Sannai Maruyama and the Aomori Art Museum. Clean room!
