Hotel Rojas, hotel in Vulcano

In the heart of the Aeolian Island of Vulcano, Hotel Rojas is right opposite the Baia Levante beach and the thermal mud pool.

The property is located right by the sulfur pond of the island. As soon as I arrived the smell was unbearable. I am not sure why this place is on booking. I am still expecting some financial compensation. The manager was really nice prior to me arriving to the hotel. Then when he witnessed me getting actually sick because of the smell , he became helpless.

Mari del Sud Resort, hotel in Vulcano

Set on Vulcano, the southernmost of the Aeolian Islands, Mari del Sud Resort & Village is right on the seafront on Porto Ponente Bay.

Location is good by the beach. Some of the staff were very nice (Argentinean girl in breakfast room & African Italian girl in the reception, people in swimming pool) but to be honest some people on the reception were one of the worst I have seen in my life. Happy to be contacted by the hotel management to provide further details on this. Breakfast was amazing though but please bear in mind this is not a quiet place but a place for people with families.

Hotel Garden, hotel in Vulcano

The Garden is just 100 metres from the volcanic sands of Ponente Beach on Vulcano Island. This renovated 1970s building with garden boasts a traditional Aeolian style.

Because of a "plumbing issue" we were rebooked to "Mari del Sud" Resort. From the outside it looked like the neighbouring Hotel Garden has shut down forever. So we got a free Upgrade, thank you for that. Special thanks to the extremely lovely and helpful staff at Mari del Sud, who made us enjoy our stay even more: Valentina, another young gentlemen whose name i didnt catch unfortunately but who was very helpful arranging a boattour and Ygoro.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting 😍 Great views of the Vulcano from the pool. Nice staff. E-bikes were an amazing way to explore the island, handy to have them from the hotel.

    Incredible wee island.

Incredible wee island. Loved that you could cycle everywhere easily, there were lots of mini adventures to be had e.g. Vulcanello crater, snokelling, Monte Saraceno, Capo Grillo viewpoint & of course the Vulcano crater hike. Lots of great places to eat, cute, off the beaten track feel. We loved how quiet everywhere was in October.

    I love Volcano.

I love Volcano. The relaxed, laid-back atmosphere has brought me back half a dozen times and it never fails to delight. Sadly Maurizio's restaurant is no longer in operation but there are still some other places to eat that don't disappoint. Walking up the volcano is always fun, though they have restricted access to the zone of the fumaroles now, and the mud-pools have been closed completely. I was told this is because they have got too hot. We also went to visit the cat colony who are situated on Vulcanello, and was pleased to see that they have been moved to more comfortable quarters. Swimming in the sea - especially where it's sprinkled with hot bubbles - is always a delight. The Spiaggia Nera (black-sand beach) has not hot bubbles but is really pleasant. My only gripe with Vulcano (and the whole of Sicily) is that there is too much litter everywhere. It could really do with a good clean-up. The friendly, relaxed people go a long way towards making up for it ... maybe if they weren't so relaxed they would organise some clean-ups!

The Spiaggia delle Acque Calde is a must-go place, probably the only place in the world with sulphuric gas coming out from the seabed to warm the water like a natural jacuzzi. The mudpool next to it is also very good, it might look dirty from outside but once you are in it, it gets less smelly of sulphur and you feel like having a caffe latte bath!

Vulcano has a lovely laid-back vibe.

Vulcano has a lovely laid-back vibe. Everyone, from Maurizo (he has a restaurant not far from the supermarket - completely recommend it) is friendly but not over-friendly. The volcano is fascinating to climb, fumaroles fascinating to observe and the beaches are fascinating to frequent, with their sparkling black sands, and even the semi-feral cats are well-cared for. The mud-baths are great but also a bit feral at the moment - I think they are going to upgrade them ... wear flip-flops around the edges and be careful not to tread where the bubbles are as feet can get scorched ...

We recommend the restaurant La Isla, great pasta in huge portions, you can easily share one plate and have a secondo piatto. The 40 mins walk uphill to Valley dei Mostri is a total waste of time as there are only 2 or 3 rocks vaguely ressembling animals. The place is desolate and depressing. We never found the entrance to the Vulcanello as it is not posted. Equally uninterresting is the Agua calda beach. The water is vaguely tepid at best, the water blurry and the bottom rocky. It is a tourist trap to rent chairs and umbrellas. The La Baia Negra beach is infinitely better. The tour of the island by bus is a delight but a bit expensive at 30 euros per person for an hour, but since there is nothing else to do and the alternative is to rent a car or a scooter - but there is nowhere to go, apart from small Geco, since everything is located around the port. The walk to the volcano has been closed for nearly a year because of excessive gasses. The mud baths are also closed. So, you come to Vulcano for the beach, the scenery, and Giuliana !

It’s a special place as the island is a volcano.

It’s a special place as the island is a volcano. The surrounding is very special, black sand and lots of fishes to see. It’s much more expensive than Sicily and quite touristic. It’s great for diving and has a great diving center. Not the classic beach you might be thinking of and has a strong smell of sulfur. Gorgeous view and beautiful sea

I cannot speak highly enough of Pensione La Giara and its owners - Manfredi and her sister went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible. In fact, they even helped us after we left - they searched everywhere top find a charger we forgot (and found it) and kept giving us tips about our stay in Vulcano. I would recommend La Giara to everybody - it is close to everywhere in Vulcano Porto, cleaned, cozy, they have a wonderful terrace but most importantly they really really care about their guests!

The amazing and professional staff at this hotel - led by the superb manager, Lorena - made our stay absolutely delightful and unforgettable. They went out of their way to make everything perfect for us. It felt like we were staying with friends...even the owner was there to say "hello". The hotel is beautiful, with wonderful facilities, and panoramic views. The breakfasts were abundant and the variety was amazing.

Receptionist was very welcoming and spoke English - he even knew my name before checking in. Location is maybe a 10-15 minute walk away from the port and the hotel has a great view on the volcano. The size of the room was way bigger than I initially expected. The pool is awesome and opens early at 8am. I liked how the breakfast was right at the pool and was possible after check-out.

A very nice hotel on the island with an outside pool with a view of the volcano. We got a free room upgrade and stayed in a separate building close to the swimming pool. The room was very comfortable, except for the mosquitos that were coming to visit us. So I would suggest adding some kind of appliance (like raid maybe) to the rooms.
