Umi hotel is an understated, elegant boutique hotel near the city of Vik, on the shore of a black sand beach, at the edge of the expansive Katla natural park and a beautiful part of Iceland that we were excited about seeing. Staying at Umi Hotel, we were able to access many of the beautiful waterfalls, ice caves, views of the glacier, access to the mossy lava fields, close contact with hordes of Icelandic horses, and aurora borealis viewing wake up service. Even though skies were overcast and the aurora wasn't visible, it was incredible to stay at a place that feels so remote and quiet, while enjoying super comfortable accommodations, a gourmet restaurant, and warm, friendly, and helpful staff. Sauna was a plus, too!

Such a sweet little hotel. Really felt personal and cosy.

The room was comfortable. The location is good for a drive along the southern coast. We liked our room's access to the spa tub. The location was excellent for the amazing northern lights we saw.
Once we found the correct location, the phone mentioned in the instructions was easy to find and the host gave me the numbers needed to access the room.
The common room has lots of comfortable seating and several games.
Several reviews have mentioned breakfast: Breakfast was fine (if you are from the US, this was on par with a mid-level hotel breakfast) but not as good as what we experienced at the other inns we visited during our stay.

Excellent hosts, nice, tidy room with comfy bed, tasty afternoon snack & breakfast, super quiet location, and very low light pollution. There is nothing else really around, so come with food or plan to eat in the dining hall. I would stay again.
We used our own bath towels. The directions for filling hot tub with fresh hot water were easy to follow. Buy food in town on the way as grocery store is about 45 min away. We rode at the stable next door farm 2 days. The cottage was a great home base for sightseeing and also has a beautiful hike along the canyon in back.
