The Guðlaug hot tub on the beach is a 'must-visit'.

The Guðlaug hot tub on the beach is a 'must-visit'. If the outdoor location is a bit wild for you, it is also situated right next to the sports centre which has a heated pool. Also; whilst I drove through the tunnel to get to Akranes, I recommend using the scenic route to get back. It does add a bit of time to your journey, but the landscape and scenery is fantastic.

Very nice small town, in 40 min from Reykjavik and near to...

Very nice small town, in 40 min from Reykjavik and near to many attractions in Snaefellsnes Peninsula in Iceland, so it's perfect location to visit many interesting places around. The place to be in Akranes, for sure is a Lighthouse, since 1944, unique in Iceland which is possible to visit inside, climbing to the top. From the top you can see a beautiful panorama of 360° , this wonderful and romantic place offer some exhibitions and local music concerts. Climbe the Lighthouse! After climbing Lighthouse, may be you will be a little bit hungry, so have a nice lucnh or a dinner in Gamla Kaupfélagið can be very good idea. Very nice ambience, good local foog and local beer. Enjoy Akranes in every season!

a perfectly equipped and sterile clean facility! The owners welcomed us at the door and showed us around the apartment, explaining everything. Additionally, the very nice hosts told us about the attractions available in the area. definitely the best place we stayed in during our stay in Iceland (and we were in 10 different places)
