Makarska, a small town along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is absolutely worth visiting! Its natural harbor, historic old town, and lively beach scene make it a popular destination. Here’s what you need to know: Getting There: The closest airport is Split (about 65 km away). Buses from popular cities can be taken, but renting a car is ideal. The scenic coastal route offers stunning views. Makarska Riviera: This 60 km coastal road winds through small villages below Mount Biokovo. Take your time to explore beautiful beaches and towns along the way. Old Town: Makarska’s vibrant old town features a seafront promenade with cafes, restaurants, and boats in the harbor. Whether you visit in peak summer or quieter months, Makarska won’t disappoint! This beach, backed by a long promenade, is where everyone gathers

    Villa Dijana is beautiful.

Villa Dijana is beautiful. I liked the room, very clean, comfortable bed. The host Gordana was very kind, friendly, offered free coffee, biscuits and juice. She even lent me an umbrella so I could walk because it was a rainy day. The kitchen is shared and each room has its own refrigerator. There is a terrace with a view of Biokovo. It is not far from the beach, about 15 minutes and everything is right there. If you are a bit older or not in the best condition and you plan to walk to the beach and back to the villa, it is a bit of a challenge since there is a big uphill to the villa. If you have a car, it's not a problem, but you have to pay for parking wherever you go. Otherwise, I would recommend this place for vacation.

A small wonderful town right on the water.

A small wonderful town right on the water. It is super crowded on the beach but if you don’t mind that it’s worth it. Wonderful restaurants and beautiful walking areas in town. Amazing old buildings and a very charming old town. Perfect for a few days getaway. The water is crystal clear and the food is delicious. Everyone speaks English and people are friendly. There are playgrounds for small children and lots of fun in the water for older kids like pedal boats, jetskis and “jumping areas” out in the water. Perfect for families. But don’t forget the sunscreen! 😀 ☀️

We loved the two beaches we went to. The old town is lovely, and we love staying in it. Surrounding shops and facilities have everything you need, they are close and easy to access. Makarska always has a vibrant atmosphere.

They developed the services a lot, really good small pebble covered beach in a huge bay protected from high winds by Brac island in front of the bay. Many good restaurants, OK parking, nice port with old buildings in great condition. The apartments are usually higher up on a steep mountain side, providing a harder walk but a better view :) We drove over from the opposite side of the Adriatic sea, so we could compare it with the Italian side (Jesolo area), and the prices were almost the same, the pebble beach maybe better (at least clearer water than the sandy beach across), less windy, but still missing the happiness coming from the Italian people, and the highest quality in food and entertainment, Croatia a bit more laid back, things are not a smoothly organized as on the Italian Adria. The only thing really bothersome is the restaurant stuff coming over a few seconds after you start reading the menu placed in front of their places. They do not give you any time to read it through. I know in some countries they do this, but I always leave when they do not give me time to choose based on the menu.

We had a most pleasant vacation in Makarska and a fabulous stay at the 17 pines. Especially we appreciated the warm greeting from the hosts and all the small details (kitchen tools, ammenities, decorations and a lovely front yard) that elevated our stay from great to perfect. 17 Pines was one of the nicest stays we've had in Croatia so naturally, we absolutely reccommend booking!
