Beautiful site with lots too see. Be prepared to climb.
Beautiful site with lots too see. Be prepared to climb. A guide is helpful but not necessary if you pay $10 USD to download the app and make it a self guided tour. Pay for the tunnels, they are worth it.

The town is cute and colorful.
The town is cute and colorful. People are real nice, like everywhere I've been in Honduras so far from Tegucigalpa to Utila to here. The town is full of steep hills.
The ruins themselves are a bit tricky to find from town, but everyone is super helpful. Booked a guide at the ruins, which was nice because I learned so much! I think if I wasn't with a fellow backpacker to split the cost, I wouldn't have gotten the guide because it's $30. Sépulturas and the tunnels were closed because of covid. Lots of red macaws eating around the entrance and flying around everywhere!
I really enjoyed Macaw Mountain bird park. I love toucans and they had a bunch of different species in their rescue center. I didn't expect to fall in love with the macaws! The place is full of red macaws in their rescue facilities and flying around. You can take photos with red, blue, and green macaws! You can feed them biscuits, too. No holding because of covid, but being surrounded by all the colorful macaws is so much fun!
A lot of these birds were kept as pets and have physical and/or mental trauma that they wouldn't survive long on their own in the wild. The ones you take photos with can't fly, some of them you can see their physical injuries but they seem as excited to see us as we were to see them. There's an area for others with molted feathers and the one loved me and kept blocking my view of the other birds. So cute, but so sad knowing how bad he must've been treated to molt so much.

very friendly local people.
very friendly local people. Staff and guides at the ruins are very good. It felt like a very safe town and we enjoyed being in the zocalo with the local people and their children in the evening. We've been to many mayan historic sites and this site is amongst the better places.

Lovely colonial town.
Lovely colonial town. Plenty to do and see - the ruins, horseback riding, zip lining, the macaw park, hot springs. We were kept well entertained! Had a great dinner at the german restaurant in town. There is also a great coffee shop called san rafael.

Let’s face it, you are only staying here to visit the ruins.
Let’s face it, you are only staying here to visit the ruins. That being said, it is a pleasant little town, emphasis on little, that has some fine restaurants and a nice museum on Central Park. Not much to see here except for the ruins, but they are spectacular, as is the on site museum. One of the best, if not the best maintained Mayan site. Well worth a visit. And you can walk anywhere in town as well as to the ruins. Go early in the morning and you will have the place to yourself.
This hotel was just amazing. The employees are very kind and helpful. Whenever we had a question they were able to help or call a person which would be helpful with a tour or any activities. We had some issues when we arrived and were around hours late but no problem for them as they waited for us.
One of the cleanest hostels we've stayed in. Nice bathrooms and toilets. Friendly staff and owner. Nice breakfast spread for a decent price. Good location, close to the center and a short 10-15 minutes walk to Copan Ruinas.
such kind staff, the hotel is beautiful, with huge clean comfortable rooms. wonderful pool to chill out in. breakfast was included and really good too.
