Samaria Hotel, hotel in Chania

Located in the heart of Chania, within 1476 feet from the Venetian harbor, the modern Samaria Hotel is ideally located just above the main square, next to the central bus station.

Stayed at this hotel for 10 nights during summer. Hotel has a great location on the fringe of old town and close to port. Convenient access to variety of restaurants and boutiques. Valet parking was smooth and very convenient whilst there also was a good selection of foods for breakfast albeit coffee was not to my liking. Staff were generally very friendly, helpful and accommodating but felt they may have been able to accommodate us more when we had to checkout and check back in since we had made two separate consecutive bookings but acknowledge hotel may have been heavily booked. Rooms were generally comfortable but standard room was on the small size and mattresses felt heavily worn and used. Wi-Fi was disappointingly slow, perhaps due to corner room locations but staff did go out of their way to remediate once we brought it to their attention and were going out of their way to compensate and wine and fruit basket was a nice token that was appreciated. Pool was nice but small and by the end of the day could benefit from a mid-afternoon clean due to heavy use. Liked the breakfast bags for early departures and provision of beach towels for seaside excursions. Generally on the expensive side and may get better value elsewhere at other locations but seems the market will pay for it. Ten days was a long stay for this location and but on the other hand it was nice to be recognized by staff when we come and go.

The location is superb! It is a 2 minute walk from the centre of Old Town yet very calm street. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. They gave us ideas and places to visit, offered an umbrella and towels whenever we wanted to go to a beach and gave us recommendations of restaurants and places to visit. Very friendly atmosphere.

Amazing hotel, why? 1- Nice, kind and helpful staff 2- Clean 3- Nice location 4- Good breakfast 5- Awesome restaurant The restaurant Theodosi is one of the best Restaurants in Chania, you have to book the table during the day for dinner; otherwise, it would be fully booked. The food was so delicious. I recommend everyone book a room with half board to enjoy dinner.

The staff were all amazing. Warm, friendly, kind, helpful. They made recommendations and helped 100 percent with reservations. We loved them and they added a wonderful touch to our visit. Breakfast — which was made in a tiny kitchenette downstairs by staff — was timely and delicious. When we left earlier than the breakfast start time (0830) the staff made us a packed breakfast bag.

The location is excellent! The sea view balcony was exceptional. The breakfast was underwhelming to us, but there are plenty of options in the area, so we didn't mind. Also, we loved picking up our breakfast and eating on the balcony, taking in the gorgeous view.

FAQs about hotels in Chania

A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations

Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.

Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.

A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.

The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

    Beautiful town.

Beautiful town. Very charming buildings and the harbour views stunning. Town made up of shops and restaurants as it’s a tourist destination and that’s mostly what there is to do. Very crowded later in day/evening. If you want to enjoy walking around go early.

I liked the nicely arranged eating places in the alleys.

I liked the nicely arranged eating places in the alleys. The were many ice cream stands everywhere to help to cool off from the high temperatures and sun everyday. From the junction of the Old Town towards and around the main square and central KTEL bus station; were many cozy coffee, sandwich, lunch and dinner outlets. The staff did not always understand English or one needs to repeat what he or she requested. The service was generally friendly but on occasions too business-like for a tourism area. Nightlife was bustling, and streets were busy with tourists, around the Venetian harbour area, along the main Chalidon shopping street to 1866 square till after 2a.m. The KTEL airco bus service Chania-Heraklion was well organised and departed on time. The landscape on the 3-hour trip was breathtaking, especially along the coastline around Rethymno.

Chania is the nicest place I have visited in Greece.

Chania is the nicest place I have visited in Greece. I came here 26 years ago and have just returned for another visit. It doesn’t fail to meet your expectations. It’s pretty, friendly, it’s just class. The harbour is so beautiful but then there’s the quaint and cosy little back streets behind the harbour with plenty of beautiful little shops, bars and restaurants. Get yourself there, you won’t be disappointed. Hoping to return next year.

    It was lovely.

It was lovely. We stayed about half an hours walk away from the town/port which we thought would be fine but id highly recommend staying closer. It was very hot and the walk seemed longer due to the heat. Town and the port itself was beautiful. I highly recommend going up to the lighthouse on an evening! All the bars and restaurants were pretty similar price wise but our favourite was Canale. The beaches were so pretty however there wasnt much space to sit especially when the tide was in.

The bay in Chania Town is flat and surrounded with pretty bars, restaurants and shops and has a lovely view of the jetty and lighthouse - a great background for magnificent sunsets. Behind the bay are numerous winding alleways, (many with steps and inclines, which might make it difficult for some to get around) housing many traditional bars and resaurants. Having spoken to some of the locals, they say it becomes very busy duing the high seaseon - I was there mid June.

-Very clean and lovely hotel, it looks brand new -Staff are so friendly and polite -Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable (beds and pillows), no noise could be heard at the back of the hotel which was perfect -Location is spot on, this is the best thing about the hotel. You are literally on the door step of Old Town, the Venetian Harbour, restaurants, shops and the bus station. The journey from the bus station to the airport was about 30mins and it stopped right outside the departures entrance.

The hotel is stunning! We were in love with every single corner of the hotel and amazed how well thought all the details were. While the property is top notch (it was one of 9 hotels we stayed in Crete) it’s nothing compared to the hospitality and friendliness of every member of the staff. Special thanks to a lady at the cafe/restaurant/bar - best cocktails and most amazing attitude (always with a smile) ☺️
