The location is great, the staff were lovely. We had a really nice dinner and the ambience in the restaurant was nice; clearly a place that locals come to.

Went on a walking holiday and used public transport to get to some of the start points. Walks were very well marked and easy to follow, especially the West Island Way, also walks starting from Rothesay.
There were lots of nice cafes scattered around the town. Also went on the island tour bus which you could get off and re-join later.

The town is very disappointing needs a complete makeover.
The town is very disappointing needs a complete makeover. Empty shops , shop fronts are in a ridiculous state of disrepair . The Royal Hotel amongst other buildings need to be demolished a total eye sore. You drive out of the town to beautiful beaches and stunning views .It is supposed to be a holiday destination. Also hardly any choice for decent food or even to find them open after 8 ish.

Rothesay is a lovely island with nice places to eat and visit. The gardens are well worth a visit along with the putting green and discovery centre.
Staff in discovery centre very helpful and informative with local knowledge. Museum at back of castle very interesting.
Kettledrum is excellent for a snack or a meal. Rothesay itself full of interesting shops to spend some retail therapy in.

Rothesay was in its heyday in Victorian times as a holiday...
Rothesay was in its heyday in Victorian times as a holiday destination but it declined in the 60's. Now it is probably a shadow of its former self. There are no top class restaurants to dine in at night - there are no quaint, cosy pubs. There are a number of coffee shops and 'greasy spoons', charity shops and many closed properties. The Castle is worth a visit but then get out of Rothesay and take a trip round the island for superb views of Arran.
Some hotels (like the Glenburn) have superb views over Rothesay Bay - also views from the ferry coming into Rothesay are good.

Rothesay is a great wee town with everything you need for a good stay the castle in the town is worth the small entrance fee and Bill at the ticket office was very helpful .Macs bar just across the road was very handy for a good pint of cask ale.Mount Stewart house is a fantastic place to visit and is a must.if you have a car there are numerous bays to drive to and even a drive around the island is good, there is also an open topped bus that will take you round and you can get off at various stops.there are numerous eating places ,we enjoyed a meal at the esplanade hotel well worth the money and also The Waterfront for a fantastic meal and wine.everybody we met were very friendly and helpful.

A Victorian town with some wonderful architecture of the period. Some parts looking in need of renovation but overall there is enough to do in terms of walks, food and drink and shopping, Good palce to stay for accessing other highlights on the island, e.g Mount Stuart.
Great location for Rothesay, town centre 5 minute walk. Beautiful sea view. Tasty breakfast served by a very helpful staff member, Fiona. Small but comfortable room.
