The hotel has very classic decor which made it feel like the high class establishment that it is. The service throughout was very good. It was not a cheap stay but due to these factors, it felt worth it.
Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet, once inscribed a window at this 16th-century hotel in Moffat’s center.

I really enjoyed my stay here, the food was very good as was the setting together with friendly at tentative staff. My only 1 comment was that the room was a little small but was very comfortable and exceptionally clean with everything I needed.

Moffat is a delightful town with an amazing sweet shop.
Moffat is a delightful town with an amazing sweet shop.
It cater for both types of weather. If it rains (which it does in Scotland) there are the shops. Moffat Mill and the museum. If it is dry there are delightful walks along the river or you can go further afield to the Grey Mare's Tail which is stunning.

Bus goes to Glasgow in about an hour, Edinburgh, Lockerbie too, probably other places but they were the 3 I saw, nature walks,
driving - lots of villages you can drive to, nice place to base yourself. The food we had in The Balmoral Hotel was good and value for money.

Interesting shops and historic buildings.
Interesting shops and historic buildings. Local Parish Church have done a fabulous re-furbishment of their sanctuary. My wife enjoyed the small garden shop in the square. Enjoyed our lunch at the Balmoral Hotel restaurant.

A good place from which to explore the West of yhe Scottish Borders. Very accessible from the motorway. Some nice local shops and lots of places to eat out. The Star Hotel is a great place for an evening meal. Very welcoming, excellent home cooked food in the upstairs restaurant. Good personable service, a good range of drinks and the best gammon steak that I have ever had.

Like most small towns these days, Moffat town was a little run down, probably not recovered from the Covid pandemic, small businesses have sadly suffered. I should think that Moffat would have been a thriving market town in its past. There are a few eateries we tried (Brodies restaurant) (Star Hotel) and pubs in the town. We ate at the Italian restaurant Claudios. It is in an excellent location being close to the A74(M) for travellers going North or South bound.
The town is easy to get around and is a quiet place.

Well I came to go walking and did so. i found enough to keep me going for a couple of full days and some inspiration for future walks. I walked from the hotel to the Devil's beeftub and back, Well worth it through lovely rolling countryside. Didn't bother eating out in the evening...not my thing really, but if I had done so i'd have used the balmoral.
The town museum was very good, i thought, with nice staff
The family who run the hotel go above and beyond to make you welcome and the hotel itself is quirky and historically interesting - the building, the photographs and the memorabelia. We enjoyed experiencing the Zimbabwean food and if we had had a motorbike I think we would have jumped for joy! Excellent location on the main street in Moffat and the lottery ticket was a very nice idea too!
Fantastic hotel , attention to detail in bedroom , you can tell the owners love it, expensive furniture etc
Bar and dining area beautiful, decor exquisite lovely gardens out the back .we booked last minute so got it for half the usual price
Breakfast lovely.
Right in heart of Moffat which is a great wee town
Breakfast was good and the location was a good break for us driving from North Scotland to the West Midlands. The room is like a suite with a sitting area and a separate bedroom. Good value for what we paid.
The best stop on our tour of Scotland. Great owners/staff, good food, excellent value for money. Beautiful grounds and outside dining/drinking area. Friendly pub. Would definitely stay there again.
