FAQs about hotels in Leicester

Great Shopping and Greater Nightlife

Multicultural Leicester has a vibrant feel, partly due to the large student population of De Montfort and Leicester universities. The latter lines Victoria Park, whereas Abbey Park covers both banks of the River Soar and houses ruins of a 12th-century abbey that was the burial site of Cardinal Wolsey.

Richard III was also buried in the city and a commemorative statue sits in Castle Gardens, by the Newarke Houses Museum and St Mary de Castro Church. St Nicholas Church overlooks the Jewry Wall Roman bath remains, while the tall-spired cathedral is next to the half-timbered, medieval guildhall.

Nearby are the Highcross and Haymarket shopping centres, as well as Leicester Market – Europe’s largest outdoor covered market. The city centre is packed with restaurants and bars, and the Golden Mile of Belgrave Road has a wealth of curry houses and jewellery stores. It also hosts the largest Diwali celebrations outside India.

Other entertainment venues are Upper Brown Street and the futuristic-looking Curve Theatre. Equally modern in design is the National Space Centre, while the National Gas Museum is near King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City FC. Leicestershire Golf Course is one of 8 surrounding the city.

The Leicester accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with spas, guest houses near the train station and cheap inns with parking.

I discovered that the food places were excellent, offering a variety of cuisines. I enjoyed Pakistani, Turkish, and Indian food. Walking through the city center was a treat. However, parking seemed expensive. I would definitely arrange for cheaper or free parking next time.

Leicester has a super clean city center with lots of food and bar options. Otherwise the stores close at 6pm and the streets are filled with some rough elements. Nevertheless I had no trouble and I can highly recommend this city as a great operating base if you want to see the surrounding area. My favorite destination was Brughley House. I also went to Peterborough, Nottingham, Haddon Hall in the Peak District, Birmingham, and Market Harborough. Leicester has frequent trains running to all of the above and has many direct trains daily from St. Pancras. The London ticket is expensive though at about $90 roundtrip or return as they say. Even the trains in the region were a little expensive for my taste. Hard to get anything for less than $20 round trip, even places 15 minutes away. All is all, you will get way more bang for your buck in Leicester than in London.

I was born in Leicester but moved away 13 years ago, I was back visiting family and was showing may partner around for the first time. The place had improved substantially and there was lots to do and places to eat and drink. It was a pleasant surprise to see how much money had been spent improving the place i grew up in.

Leicester is an everyday English town.

Leicester is an everyday English town. It might be a city, I don't know, but that's probably semantics. It's really nothing at all to want to visit. I suppose if you live there it's functional, just like a broken kettle can still hold water, but it's not a 'place to visit', which probably sums up most places to be fair. There's not a lot else to say, really. If you have a reason to go, you'll go but it is overshadowed by bigger and better e.g. Nottingham, Birmingham, Coventry, Peterborough.

Very very stylish. The bed was extremely comfortable. The complimentary milk, coffee, tea, shampoo, and shower gel gave it that luxury hotel feel. fast Wi-Fi with a smart TV. The location was perfect right in the city centre, and I loved the industrial feel to the area, it has a cheap car park right next to the building as well. Extremely extremely clean! Lovely host, answered my question about where the tv remote was very quickly!! This is my new go to place to stay when in Leicester. Highly recommend!

The furnishings were very modern and high quality and the bed was comfortable. Addition of a Nescafé coffee machine is nice and the room was cleaned to a great standard each day. Equally the property is in the nicest part of Leicester city centre so a short walk to nice eateries etc. Parking included is also a bonus. Water pressure was great in the shower.

All the staff were really welcoming especially the breakfast staff. The room was beautiful with attention to detail and the bed so comfortable. Given that our room was directly above a local pub we were not disturbed. I would definitely recommend the Castle for a stay it's a 20 minute drive to Leicester City centre.
