Fantastic staff, great location, comfortable room. The bathroom is quite small , no bath only a shower. Other than that great stay. Thank you.

The Inn on the Loch is a wonderful place to stay, sitting out on the decking overlooking the loch in the late afternoon sun enjoying a beverage was so relaxing. Enjoying the swans gliding past watching us like we were an exhibition. The staff were lovely, so helpful. Our room, although nearest the road, was quiet, clean, fresh. Just what we needed to rest and recoup after a long day driving.

There is a lot of history in the area, the town is very picturesque. It is close enough to Dumfries to do various days out as well as interesting places close by without the hustle and bustle of a bigger city centre.

Very good choice of independent shops of all different types

Loch just after the town was beautiful
Parking is on the street and spaces available. We have a blue badge and we were able to access the town very easily
Lots of different eateries, from the traditional chippy (excellent!) to little bijou cafes for coffee and cake
Seems to have a very good bus service
Most places are on the main street so easily accessible for most

A great town and wonderful surrounding area.
A great town and wonderful surrounding area. The Galloway forest is fantastic. We had a great curry at The Jewell in the Crown opposite the main car park. Make sure you check out the enormous wicker bull statue. If you go to the Red Kite feeding station do not turn up at 1pm as it opens. I would suggest 2.30 at the earliest as the birds do not start feeding for a long time after the food is put out.

Castle Douglas is a town, as opposed to a village, and as such hac#s all sorts of shops. You do not get furniture shops in a tourist town, there are several independant shops. If you are in need of retail therapy this is a good place to start. By syaying here you are in a central position for visiting the rest of South-west Scotland.

Beautiful countryside. Lots of different opportunities. walks. Wildlife, bird watching trails. Outdoor activities - lochs. Picturesque villages . Wigtown - the eccentric wee book town was quite unique! Kirkcudbright- lovely creative village with ruin castle an lots of art galleries. Lots still to find and explore in Dumfries and Galloway. Warm welcome by owner who allows dogs. Personal service you often dont get with the big hotel chains. If you are visiting Castle Douglas this is a lovely place to stay. Converted stately home that is relaxed and informal and a great little hideaway. Extensive grounds with daffodils and views of surrounding countryside while you dine. Meals are excellent value for money and cooked to your liking. The dining room on an evening has a cosy ambience with soft lighting, leather sofas, a fire and a bar.
honestly, this hotel is lovely! some of the reviews on here are a bit harsh! we had a fantastic stay, room was very clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more. the breakfast was amazing, and staff were so friendly and helpful. great value for money, the decor is traditional, shabby chic! which is what you expect when you visit a small town like castle Douglas! it adds to the experience, I wouldn’t of enjoyed myself if I was in a fancy pristine modern hotel. highly recommend.
We booked to stay here for one night ahead of a ferry trip from Stranraer which was around 1 hour 30 min drive. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and ensured our stay was comfortable. The room was modern and had all of the facilities we needed. Our room was modern and extremely clean. We’ll definitely be back and recommending to others!
The lodge is well equipped for an enjoyable stay. It is very clean and has a superb decent garden with an amazing hot-tub. The location is very quiet and green but within a short drive from Castle Douglas.
The Coop is very well located within Castle Douglas close to local amenities and restaurants. It is cosy, stylish and clean. Great communication from the owner. We had a really lovely stay.
