Good welcome. Room ok but WiFi unavailable. Also switches for side lamps not easily operated - we couldn't find them! Food good and interesting. Decided £15 a head was too much for breakfast so went elsewhere.

I picked the Jolly Sailor because I wanted an untainted English Inn to stay in with pub downstairs and I got exactly what I wanted and more. The local atmosphere of family and friends at crossroads on the banks of the River Ouse provided a great jump off spot for York. Plus, the evenings in the pub were great considering the local clientele embraced outsiders. I was invited to play in the Wednesday night bingo, but I was rather tired and regret not participating. I ate the Homemade Jolly pie, chips and peas for dinner and was very happy with the hardy meal. The beer was exceptional, I chose the Hop, Stock & Barrel sessions IPA from Jolly Sailor Brewery. The room was upstairs and small, but had wonderful street view, a good working radiator that doubled as a clothes drier. The bed was very comfortable, there was a desk and little table for two and small closet. The bathroom was down the hall with the shower and both were excellent. Parking was off site, but not hard to find a place and there is a carpark along the river. Everything is in walking distance in the village of Cawood. The village may lack some convinces such as laundry facilities, but the charm of the village is within its inergetic community. A daycare is next door and so youth keeps this village with history with King Charles III and Cardinal Wolsey in a state of constant vibrant.
