There’s some excellent walking trails and there is the local river Wansbeck only a few minutes away. Very nice Fish and Chip Shop nearby also a Chinese takeaway. Both of these places were handy for when I returned late from work. Premier convenience store directly opposite and a good bus service directly outside serving all of the local areas.

Industrial town however beaches close by. I was there for work but did not explore other areas. Plenty of take away places around. Not sure of restaurants in the area.Plenty of pubs whom I’m sure will serve food. Good shopping centre .

The Half Moon is not really in Ashington but fairly close by. The property is in Choppington Stakeford which is very quiet compared to Ashington. The property has a handy shop across the road and a bus stop on the door step. It is a very open space with beautiful walks close by along the River Wansbeck and a short drive to Camois beach which is very quiet with parking and a cafe. It’s not really fair to say it’s in Ashington which is very built up.

The half moon is in a easy to access position and it was quiet. Ashington is near to lovely seaside Cresswell for one. It's ideal to join the coastal route which is lovely to Seahouses and Bamburgh. Ashington has a decent high street and Asda Lidl and Aldi with loads of eating places. Best Chinese takeaway is in Lynemouth about 5 miles away. Ashington has plenty to offer and is ideal as a base to tour Northumberland. Alnwick and the famous Alnwick castle not too far away you've got to visit. Has a brilliant fish and chip shop with an ice cream parlour eat in or take out.

I only stayed the one night with two others staying 2 nights. Very happy with my stay at The Half Moon and would stay again if visiting the area. Restaurant and Bar were great and popluar as well - evening meal and breakfast thoroughly enjoyable, filling and value for money.

The Woodhorn Colliery Museum and The Ashington Group [Pitmen Painters] is based in Ashington and is well worth a visit wherever you are staying in Northumberland. Other than that, there is very little to recommend the town. We could not find a restaurant we wanted to visit.
