It's all as adorable as the pictures and reviews would suggest. Decent attractions, but some of the shops seemed a bit repetitive, with too much stuff not made in Alsace. Some really good traditional and modern restaurants, but watch out for tourist traps.
Colmar itself is worth maybe two days, and it's a good base camp to explore charming villages along the southern portion of the Alsatian Wine Road. We wish we'd spent another day doing that.
Big downer: we had a suitcase stolen after we boarded the train to Strasbourg, and it was not dealt with particularly well by SNCF or the Police - very hard to get help at the the Strasbourg station once we realized what happened. Watch your stuff!

The old city center is made-up primarily of medieval half-timbered buildings - some dating from the 1400s. Very picturesque. The pedestrian area, on which this apartment fronts, is quite extensive. Lots of shops (even without the Christmas market) and lots of restaurants.

The Christmas Market was nice, not too big and Colmar was close enough to drive to Strasbourg and Eguisheim Markets.
There were so many restaurants to choose from. The architecture was so different than the parts of France I have been to. Gorgeous Churches and of course at this time of year the decorations both day and night were amazing. The canal through the market area was decorated all along the way.

Colmar is stunning in its own right, but its location is also ideal for exploring nearby attractions like Strasbourg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Basel, the Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, and the charming villages surrounding Colmar. There’s so much to see that we couldn’t fit everything into one trip, which means we’ll definitely be returning!

This is the most picturesque fairy tale town in Europe.
This is the most picturesque fairy tale town in Europe. People are very friendly and are happy to speak English. You can cover a lot in an over night stay but we wished we could have stayed 2 nights instead since to cover some attractions around town. I highly recommend Colmar!

We have stayed here before on our way to/from our home in Italy. An excellent Hotel with pleasant and friendly Staff who are always helpful. A great Bar area and Food if required. A large bedroom with spotless bed linen together with a great shower & toiletries and plenty of towels. Comfortable and quiet. A great location with easy parking- very close to Colmar centre and all its attractions.
- Fantastic Hotel near Colmar train station
- Hotel personnel were really friendly and easy to communicate with (in our case as no French speakers, talking in English with them was not an issue at all)
- Not too far from city centre
- Parking available without extra cost. Parking is possible before check-in time
- Comfy room
A fantastic place to stay in Colmar! Central but not noisy, comfortable beds (we had the superior room), nice room, beautiful stylist decoration, Traditional feeling, cultural heritage building, super wifi, elevator!!!!!!!! Staff very polite and they also speak English and German (rare thing in France 😁)!
Cheap hotel about 15 mins walk from the centre of Colmar (which is lovely). It's modern and clean and therefore pretty functional. There is car parking and you can take breakfast there but we didn't.
It fairly easy to get to the motorway either heading north or south from the hotel.
Great stay at Greet Colmar! The hotel has all comforts (plus a free parking inside) and it takes just 10-15min walk to the centre.
Perfect location for a 1-2 day visit in Colmar.
