Interesting town with cultural heritage. I was just passing through en route from Italy to London but it is a perfect stopover for one night. Unfortunately I was there on a Monday, when some attractions eg the castle are closed but I did visit the cathedral. I lived in Chambery for a year 20 years ago. It is the ideal blend of bigger town conveniences and smaller town authenticity. At first drive or walk through, you might think “pass”. But if you get out and start to walk around the central heart of town and also realize the history here, you discover Chambery’s charm.

Amazing - so much io see in such a small area. Try a fairly new restaurant, la table du maché. Very reasonable, no alcohol but who needs it when a lovely brochette of chicken with salad. Chips and roquefort sauce bread is €14.50

The town is wonderful.
The town is wonderful. Old stonehouses and also palaces and great administrative old buildings in baroque and classical styles. Surrounding mountains add to the views. Sadly you could see quite a lot drug users and homeless and unemployed people.Andreas

Also the walls were really thin and could hear everything in the room next door - it was fine as it was my family but if it was a stranger it would have been more difficult. Bed was comfy but the whole place needs doing up. Good location for onward journey to the ski slopes, nice restaurant near by called Côte d’arette or something like that. Good parking out front of the hotel
