I chose the hotel for it's ease of access to the motorway heading south. The hotel was comfortable and undergoing some renovations, so not quite as good as it looked on the website.

It was across the street of the train station so i knew I didn't have to take public transport to the station. They were kind enough to allow me to leave my luggage there until I had to take my train which was a few hours after check out time. Their buffet breakfast was decent for 10 Euros - great coffee. No eggs though. All cold stuff.

Angouleme has a lot of charm. Plenty of interesting high end restaurants, bars, shops and beautiful period architecture.
There is a very good Curry Restaurant there which, although not up to my English expectations, is the best I have been to in France. There was also a very caracterful and cozy bohemian bar which was frequented by the locals ('Le Giraffe') serving good beer (Kwak on draught!) Parking in the town wasn't too difficult but it was January! Lots of one way streets and restrictions so prepare for frustration. Definitely a good place for couples and romantic evenings. There is lots of wall art on the sides of buildings as this town is known for its artists who create much of the 'Bande Dessinees' produced in France.
However... This area of France has definitely seen better days and that is quite in evidence outside the town where it is hard to ignore the many boarded -up shops and derelict buildings. A real shame for such a beautiful and historic area.

Probably overlooked unless you go for the comic festival but a fun little place with a walking tour around the city, a river and park to spend some time and good food and drink options and a great comic museum!

Angouleme was unknown for us and we used it as an overnight stop on our trip to Spain. It turns out that Angouleme is a beautiful and lively little city and certainly worth visiting. We will consider visiting again and stay more than just a night.

Very magnificent city, perfect to watch sunsets 🌇, we were staying in an old part of it, but it made us 'wow" a lot. We would like to visit it again just to explore it more. But even if you are staying for one night, just go for a walk and experience it..it was very empty everywhere and quiet on Wednesday evening..we loved it. ! ❤️

The town is very walkable, up and down hills, you will earn your right to enjoy the most incredible food at any restaurant. I had one of the best meals of my trip at La Braise. Incredible, I need more time to explore this small village in the South of France.

This place is amazing. What a find!! I loved the aesthetic of the entire property. Well thought through with beautiful attention to detail. I made my way up to the restaurant and had dinner (at the bistro) which was delicious (I just wish I had taken note of the wine I had!!). As there is no-one on the hotel site I paid for dinner, breakfast and the room with dinner which meant I could leave in the morning. I would recommend the breakfast and dinner - both were delicious.
Cannot recommend this spot enough.
Comfy bed, pleasant staff and a good breakfast. We were later arriving than planned and liked that the management sent a message about how to access the hotel if main door locked. Also next to the amusing O Buffet restaurant with robot waiters!
