The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main train station, but doable; certainly close to the main attractions of the old town. The room was quiet and the fitness room was down the hall. Beverages were available in the common area 24/7.

I liked the location where the hotel was located at.
Bamberg is the epitome of everything Bavarian: half-timbered houses, medieval splendour and heavenly views. Due to its overwhelming beauty, it’s almost surreal to wander its cobbled streets and drink it all in.
Speaking of which, Bamberg has a surprising number of breweries and inns serving its signature Rauchbier. Most are dotted around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed, pedestrianised historic centre - once at the heart of the Holy Roman Empire. Emperor Henry II ordered construction of the 11th-century cathedral and is buried inside.
His empire’s prince-bishops had it good, and their former seats are scattered over the city. Their Old Palace courtyard has wooden balconies adorned with bright flowers. The New Residence is even grander, with opulent halls reflecting the rulers’ wealth. Michaelsberg Abbey – the bishops’ private monastery - is on one of Bamberg’s 7 hills, and on the highest is Altenburg Castle, another ruler’s abode.
The modern seat of power – the town hall – is the most incredible building of all. Spanning 2 bridges over the Regnitz River, it partly hangs above the fast-flowing water and is overlooked by the colourful Little Venice fishermen’s houses.
Booking.com’s Bamberg accommodation is as eclectic as the bishops’ residences, ranging from old town hotels to cheap apartments and guest houses near Maxplatz, home of the main Christmas market.
Bamberg Altstadt is a must see! It is a medieval gem.
Bamberg Altstadt is a must see! It is a medieval gem. We arrived at our hotel in the middle of the old city during a festival weekend with lots of music and beer flowing. Everything ended punctually at midnight and we got a good nights sleep : ) Our visit was too short and we would love to return!

Bamberg is a great town for those able to walk comfortably.
Bamberg is a great town for those able to walk comfortably. There are churches and
restaurants on both sides of the river, as well as the Grunner Markt. It's a place to take lots
of pictures of the cathedral, Old Town Hall, the Bishop's rose garden and kayaking on the
river. Very picturesque and charming. Don't miss the smokey beer for a new taste!

Cute, well-preserved old town. Nice riverside walks.
Cute, well-preserved old town. Nice riverside walks. Town is very walkable. If time permits, try hiking to Altenburg where you virtually have the whole place to yourself. It was not too far, some uphill but not too difficult. A 2 night stay is perfect.

Bamburg doesn't disappoint.
Bamburg doesn't disappoint. If you want to spend a few grand on antiques, there's that. There are beer gardens galore. The oldest coffee roaster in Bamberg is going strong and the coffee is amazing. Prize-winning chef's everywhere. And the history. Did I mention the Cathedral? Or any place else your eyes might wander? And get this: we found a street artist we met thirty years ago; he's still painting! We bought one of his pieces. So cool! And BB is a university town so there's a lot of energy, music, theatre, you name it.

The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra is a top-class ensemble.
The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra is a top-class ensemble. See it if you can. Take the time to hike up to the Altenburg and then climb the tower for €1. It is well worth the effort for a great 360 degree view of bamberg and its seven hills. The Altstadt is also charming.

Bamberg is a nice compact town which can easily be walked...
Bamberg is a nice compact town which can easily be walked and all the people of Bamberg we encountered were friendly. It had been beautifully kept and so many interesting places to visit or just simply wander about the town and admire the town as a whole. We had an amazing lunch at Hotel Brudermühl just by chancing across it as we walked the town and the Glühwein was pretty good too.
Currently (Dec 2023) there is a lot of restoration and building works so a number of locations are not open or are partially open for visitors but there is still plenty to see and do. Domplatz with the Bamberg Cathedral and New Residence are definitely worth visiting - make sure you go into the rose garden for the view across Bamberg.
In warmer weather a walk up to St Michael’s should be done.
Best thing to do in Bamberg is to walk and just Criss-cross the streets and bridges so you can see the amazing Altes Rathaus in the middle of the river from all angles as well as all the wonderful little finds on your walk. Bamberg is also a little shopping-mecca so remember to put aside some euros to spend here.
Definitely allow 3 days for Bamberg if you want to see everything.
Very nice historic building with relatively large rooms for the kind of building. The bathroom was pretty newly refurbished. My room had a very nice balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. Position is on the way out from Bamberg but still pretty close to the city center, perfect if you've got a car. Even though there's no private parking, plenty of parking places close to the hotel.
Villa Katharina is a very special hotel, outside the center, in a quite hilly area, which we liked. Good exercise. Glad we stayed two nights to get used. Room is well equipped and luxury. Breakfast is special, as each guest can specify how to get the hot food. Bamberg is also special with two canals surrounding the old town.
I love this place !!! It’s near the train station, and not far from Altstadt so it’s easy to explore the city. Everyone in the hostel are so nice as well. I really enjoyed staying in this hostel, if I’m going to visit Bamberg in the future, this hostel will be my best choice!
We arrived in Bamberg quite late at night because our train was delayed. When we called the hotel the staff was very nice and told us not to worry. After being awake since 4am we were more than happy when we entered our room and saw two clean comfy beds.
