When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Food was wonderful and everything was so affordable.
Food was wonderful and everything was so affordable. Loved that almost everywhere took digital (card) payments and receipts were very easy to read. Also loved that we could use Uber for airport and longer commutes. The roof top at Baroca treated us so well and the food/service were top notch - relaxing and so breezy. Sabrosura de la Buena Vida was the most delightful and delicious place/food in the walled city. Centenario Park was a favorite spot for monkeys, sloths and parrots. AND Romario's Cartagena Cooking School is a must-do!

Beautiful wallled city with lots of restaurants and bars.
Beautiful wallled city with lots of restaurants and bars. It was very hot so walking around during the day wasn’t doable. Many plazas and we were there for the festival of horses which was fun. The nicer Beaches require a boat ride. Would not recommens the five island boat tour. Instead find one nice beach and take a boat there

Its a beautiful historic place. unfortunately its very much overpriced. They should remove all the aggressive street vendors out of the center so that people can walk in peace through these beautiful streets. Also there is much noise pollution by so many restaurants and locals blaring their Salsa music. Its seems that also greed has taken over here! The tourist has to bleed! Its so much more present here than in other cities in Colombia. Be also aware of the greedy tour operators they overcharge you 3 times the normal price when they understand you are from Europe or the US. The trip to the Rosario islands was such a disappointment. What a destruction of those beautiful Islands,

a beautiful city with many things to do and visit.
a beautiful city with many things to do and visit.
The old town as well as the area or Barrio Getsemani are colourful and really worth visiting and spending some days there.
The modern part of Bocagrande i personally avoided, except for the beach, as nothing to see there and is overpriced.
The airport is very close and the taxis fares are around 20.000 COP to 30.000 COP from and to the historic part.

People always want to know is it dangerous.
People always want to know is it dangerous. It's very safe if you practice safe pastimes. If you go to Chicago looking for cheap thrills in the wee hours of the morning, you might find em! Cartegena is no different. The night life scene is amazing, the food is okaaaayyyy, you'll have to pick your spots and find what you like. The people makes it pop.

Easy access to the beaches, but even better to take boat ride to nearby Rosario Islands for even better beaches and more fun

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Cartagena de Indias
The hotel has a unique atmosphere. An old colonial building was transformed into a boutique hotel, and some of the items, like the furniture or the bathtub kept the old design. The staff is very attentive, our room was spacious and comfortable. The pool at the top of the hotel is really useful in the humid heat of Cartagena. It was never crowded while we stayed there. The hotel is in the middle of the old town.
The staff was really nice, they kept our bags as we arrived earlier, and the check in was very smooth. The second room that we stayed in was comfortable. The property is close to supermarkets, stores, pharmacies, etc. It is very easy to walk around the old city and this hotel is located in one of the main streets.
Nice and quiet hotel outside of the busy streets of Getsemani and the old city, just a 10 minute walk to Getsemani. Had a few problems with the paying, but sorted it with Richard's help. All in all good stay also because of the kitchen we could use. And Richard was a great host
Everything ! It is The best boutique hotel in Town. With so many comforts and luxurious decoration. The location is perfect for discovering the city and the breakfast was really copious.
