ibis budget Gent Centrum Dampoort, hotel in Ghent

Ibis budget Gent Centrum Dampoort is situated in Ghent, 1.6 km from Ghent Christmas Market and 1.5 km from MIAT Museum.

Breakfast, location were nice, and people on the reception were very friendly. I liked the vibe when people were chilling in the lobby. Actual 24h hour reception. Overall the stay was okay, except for the incident.

FAQs about hotels in Ghent

A Historical, Cultural and Culinary Gem

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.

The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).

Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.

Antwerp International Airport is 52 km away, while Brussels Airport is 55 km. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

A beautiful city with friendly, helpful people. Lots of interesting, historical architecture. Bars & restaurants are typically inflated city centre / tourist prices that you get anywhere. We will return to see more of the city during better weather.

We travelled in winter so our initial plans were around daylight hours. Once there the nighttime atmosphere was just as good to enjoy and feel safe. Too many great eating places to list - we picked a street each night and tried all sorts of cuisine choices- so good! Certainly lots to see, do and explore. Lots to see on any budget too. There are enough tall spires to keep you oriented to where you are because it’s easy to keep rambling down different streets.

The Christmas market was only being assembled so I couldn't comment on it. The stunning towers of the medieval city are one of the draws of this university city, which is a vibrant place. The virtual reality tour in the Cathedral is not to be missed as the Gent Alter panel is a 'must see'.

Ghent is undoubtedly one of the most charming cities in Belgium, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern amenities. Personally, I find it far more captivating than Brussels and Bruges. Its well-connected and efficient transportation system makes getting around the city seamless and stress-free, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in its beauty. The culinary scene is equally impressive, with a wide range of restaurants serving everything from traditional Flemish dishes to innovative international cuisine. Whether exploring its picturesque canals, admiring the stunning medieval architecture, or simply indulging in its vibrant food culture, Ghent truly stands out as a must-visit destination in Belgium.

A fantastic city with a stunningly beautiful historic area. Although there is a lot of tourist pressure, it is easy to visit and has many points of interest. It is very easy to use public transport to get around. But outside the historic center, the city is unattractive and gray. Even a bit dirty.

Fran and Maarten were wonderful hosts! As soon as we walked in, we felt welcomed by Fran. The room was spacious and clean, bathrooms were modern and excellent condition. Maarten is an amazing chef and went above and beyond for us while we were there. Would recommend trying out their restaurant while you are there. We will go back to their bed and breakfast if we ever go back to ghent belgium.

Great hotel which is kind of like a mix between a hotel and a hostel. Rooms were really clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful. There is lockers to store your bags and they organise occasional activities. It was about a 15min walk into the center of the Old Town. The price was also fantastic compared to other Ghent options.
