The Sunrise Cottage is excellent, with this visit our second stay. The cottage has been renovated to an excellent standard with all of the quality fittings available. The breakfast left is ample and much appreciated. Can't wait to return in winter and use the fireplace.

Excellent botanical gardens. We went to the blow hole a short way from Portland and the views there were great. Also in the same area were the petrified Forrest. A Portland tram runs along the coast Good eating areas.

Lovely old town with many historic buildings intact.

Lovely old town with many historic buildings intact. Lots of character and a good vibe there. The industrial port is a bit ugly but there are plenty of nice sea spots not far away. The RSL had good meals and great staff.

    Portland is a gem.

Portland is a gem. Many things to see - the Water Tower Museum has an amazing collection of military pieces, documents, and photos from all the wars that Australia has been involved in. Run by volunteers and they are really worth chatting to. Also is a stop on the Portland Trolley Tram. The Information Centre (with attached restaurant - recommended) is very much a required call-in for info on gannet colonies (with tour guides), lighthouses (with guided tours - a "must do"), museums etc and what's on shipping-wise in the port, and directions to a likely bull-elephant visitor at a nearby beach. Definitely needs a revisit! Eating out provides a challenge in that there are so many top quality places - a veritable United Nations of cuisines and good pub food!

There is lots to see and do in Portland from looking at the old buildings, Cape Nelson to visiting the Gannett colony. Also, Cape Bridgewater, nearby, provides more interesting opportunities for sightseeing.

We went to Portland purely to see the Gannet rookery, which was fantastic. But what I wasn’t expecting was the harbour and heritage buildings, they were beautiful. The biggest surprise was to see an Elephant Seal in the canal near the botanic garden. We also enjoyed the coastal walks and reserves. I now wish we had planned a longer stay.
