This Ryokan was our favourite experience on our trip and one we will never forget. Every detail was unique and lovely, and every person working here is fantastic. We were picked up from Yudanaka station right as we arrived, which was so generous and good. Then once we arrived we were shown to our rooms and also served dinner by Hiro who was an exceptional host. The private onsen room we had called "Ayame" was quiet, comfortable and peaceful. Despite being surrounded by baths everywhere there was no humidity and it was fresh and cool. The rest of the private onsens throughout the ryokan were each so unique and interesting, with the larger open air baths being my favourite. You can reserve these if it's during busy times or if it's low traffic you can just go into any of them and lock the door behind you, meaning you can go as a mixed sex group or couple. If you have breakfast and dinner, these are extravagant and large multi dish meals full of variety, with everything being high quality leaving us feeling fueled and refreshed. I could go on forever about how great Kokuya is, but it's better to go there and see firsthand how amazing the building, the people and the onsen village of Shibu is! There are some things to be aware of that might be unusual for others booking who aren't used to Ryokans or Japan The tatami mat sleeping arrangements are hard, but I like this and anyone who prefers hard mattresses and sleeping on your back will enjoy them. Also note that the meals are large and varied, there is a western style breakfast available but to really enjoy this Ryokan you should be prepared to dive into Japanese Kaiseki dining with everything that it involves, from the raw fish and raw egg to the sea urchin and everything between. If you are too fussy and dislike most of the things it would be a big waste and loss for you. If you enjoy this, you will love it!

Yamanouchi'de, Jigokudani Maymun Parkı'na 4,1 km mesafede yer alan Shoraiso'da bahçe, ücretsiz özel otopark, ortak salon ve teras bulunur. Amazing property with even more amazing staff. We stayed for two night during our honeymoon and couldn’t be happier with the experience. It was an authentic yet luxurious Ryokan. Our room was beautifully decorated, spotless and it even had its own onsen. The food was exceptional and the staff was very well trained and extremely friendly. Highly recommended this hotel and would love to go back on day.

My stay there was lovely! My family and I really enjoyed ourselves at this place. The space was really huge and it was accessible by car. The hosts were also prompt in their response and very kind and helpful! It was a good stay.

The private onsen was a highlight, complemented by the beautiful space and friendly service. The living room and patio offered stunning views, creating the perfect setting to unwind. The location was also ideal, being close to the base of Monkey Park and the bus stop. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Shimotakai'de yer alan Five Peaks Ryuoo, yakın zamanda yenilenmiş bir konaklama birimidir. Ryuoo Kayak Parkı 4,7 km, Jigokudani Maymun Parkı ise 15 km uzaklıktadır. House was situated in a quiet neighbourhood. The first evening I arrived at the house, I saw a wild life cat metres away from me. Saw a similar species the next evening. Entire unit was cosy and big enough to accommodate my family of 5. The washing machine and dryer unit provided means we do not need to pack as many sets of clothes for the whole trip. I would like to come back in future when there is snowfall. This time round we were too early.

A huge huge house. Fully equipped with what you may need. Very close to the snow monkeys and to the extremely beautiful mountain roads.

An amazing place to stay in the heart of Shiga Kogen. We LOVED Hotel Iwasuge and the people who run it. We were greeted in warm and friendly manner and that set the tone for the entire stay. The location is AMAZING, the food is AWESOME, the rooms are WONDERFUL, the onsen/spa is GREAT for your sore ski muscles. I was genuinely sad to leave here and miss seeing the lovely staff who helped us on a daily basis. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Iwasuge to anyone who is after a genuine, friendly 'taste of Japan' place to stay in Shiga Kogen - you wont be disappointed.

Featuring a bar, ロマンスホテル（Romance Hotel） is set in Shimotakai in the Nagano region, 8.7 km from Ryuoo Ski Park and 19 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. It was truly as Japanese experience. The owner/host was extremely helpful, courteous, accommodating and friendly.
