The houseboat itself was inspired by old houseboat designs but was quite modern and very comfortable. The staff were excellent with the cook preparing lavish feasts for us - food was exceptional! They even had binoculars for bird watching - something I didn't know I would enjoy so much. Absolutely unforgettable experience.
Located in Alleppey, Why Not Houseboat offers accommodation with seating area. There is a private entrance at the boat for the convenience of those who stay.

The experience far exceeded our expectations - it was simply incredible. We met our crew on arrival (captain, two chefs and service provider), all of who were lovely. The boat itself was only 5 days old and very luxurious, from the dining room, to the bathrooms and bedrooms. What truly makes this boat special though, and sets it apart from other house boats, is the unique top deck. The top deck had comfy furniture and areas to sit in the sun or in the shade. The design allows the airflow to keep you cool as the boat sailed.
We opted for 3 days, 2 nights and were glad we did so. This allowed us to sail down quieter backwaters on the second day and to see local life as we went past (most house boats that do just one night take the same busy route).
The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, much of it Keralan cuisine.
You won't regret booking with Why Not, we considered it excellent value and a truly special experience. We can wholeheartedly recommend.

The houseboat was amazing and and it was a pleasant and wonderful journey.
We had the trip of our life with Xandari. The captain Sony, Chief cook Sanjith and kannan make us feel like kings. We bought shrimps on the way, enjoyed a shirodhara massage and had a very relaxing peaceful trip.
We will come back.
10 stars for the food! It was the best food we had.

We did not stay in the houseboat but in the homestay and did a tour with Jose on the backwaters. Room was good value for money and the hosts are friendly and very helpful, making time to find out bus timings or just have a chat. We did the morning countryboat and houseboat tour and everything was well organized and the crew very friendly. Because the tour is in the early morning, it feels like you have the backwaters to yourself and not sharing it with other tourists!

We loved our 2 night cruise on Thara’s Houseboat. There are only 2 cabins on the houseboat and 3 staff on board, so it felt a really intimate, private experience on a beautiful wooden heritage boat. The food was incredible, some gorgeous fish and vegetarian dishes and tasty afternoon snacks. We had a relaxing and peaceful 2 day cruise around the Kerala backwaters and then we were dropped back off in Alleppey. The boat was stunning and a really cool experience - we would definitely recommend this boat over one of the bigger, more commercial houseboats.
Special thanks to Saji (chef on night 1), Roy (chef on night 2), Sanu and Jayabalan for making our stay so special. The staff were all amazing and wanted the guests to enjoy their stays.

Houseboat staff were lovely and food was delicious. Our houseboat had an open area so there were many mozzies during dinner. Rooms were quite old and run down. We had lizards crawling around the room. The ship docked near a rice field at night so there were plenty of mozzies. Anti Malaria and Mozzie repellent is very strongly recommended.

Really good value. Food was brilliant and plentiful and lots of activities to do while on the boat - sunrise kayaking was brilliant (externally with minimal additional charge). Clean rooms and the setting is beautiful.

Amazing private crew- the food was O-M-G!!! One of its kind experience for us
Get out on the water (without ever leaving the dock!) on a commercial boat. Guests have access to a partial or entire boat, yacht or houseboat, which will remain docked throughout the stay. Meals and additional services may be available -- a nautical getaway awaits.
It is a very beautiful resort. Each and every staff/employee of the resort was helpful. It was near to the lake which makes the environment very relaxed and calm. Please who are looking for relaxed stay with lot of amenities for kids it is a must visit property. They have their own house boat also.
Our group of 10 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mango Kerala Homes. Everything was perfect - the hosts, breakfast, lunch and dinner on the houseboat, location and view. We would definitely stay here again if visiting Kumarakom.
The location is beautiful and the property has an undeniable old India charm. The houseboat excursion was absolutely wonderful and is highly recommended. The staff went out of its way to accommodate our needs which we really appreciated.
I spent a very relaxing two nights on the houseboat, spending the first day travelling south and spending the night next to the rice paddy islands, then the second day returning along the other coastline. The food was consistently fantastic, with absolutely massive portions 😅
Fantastic family hosts in the best home stay of our trip
Great food, lovely family who helped us gain the full experience of a top class house They also have a beautiful house boat which we saw but did not have time to spend a night on - a big regret
Can recommend without hesitation - thank you so much Divya and family
The food was amazing. The chef is incredible - best food i have had in the whole India trip. Varied and delicious. Aircon in bedrooms and of an evening in the downstairs lounge, plus aircon in the dining room. Slept like a log. Wonderful relaxing backwater cruise. Highly recommend Grand Villa Houseboat.
Great value for money and a view to die for. It's an experience bryond imagination to sit on the verandah and watch the house boats go by. Dibu the person in charge was helpful and Always available. He took care of all our needs however small. He even arranged for pick up And drop off right in front of our home stay by the house boat we had booked. Would visit again with family and friends And recommend a one night stay to all.
We stayed overnight on the houseboat. The boat itself was very nice. The lounge dining area was particularly good, the bedroom was fine. I wasn’t sure how it would work being the only passengers, but I was relieved that it went well. The crew of three were very professional and helpful and they made it a very pleasurable experience. We particularly enjoyed the food prepared for us.
