Read moreThe best time to visit Thailand is between November and April. This is when the weather is mostly cool and dry, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. Expect temperatures of between 21°C and 33°C, with a peak of around 37°C in April.
You can relax on one of Thailand's tranquil beaches or celebrate festivals like the romantic Loy Krathong, high-energy Songkran or vibrant Chinese New Year. It’s still winter from November to February – summer gets underway in March for most of the country. Despite the beach weather, you’ll want to pack something to wear to one of the many temples – plus clothes you’ll be happy getting soaked in the nationwide water fights during Songkran (Thai New Year). Heading to the south? Keep in mind that the Gulf coast's monsoon season is from October to April, so you’re better off visiting spots like Phuket and Krabi over on the Andaman side.

Monthly weather and travel tips for Thailand
It’s winter for most of Thailand in January, which means average temperatures of 23°C to 33°C. Chinese New Year commonly happens around this time, but it can also fall in February depending on the lunar calendar – expect vibrant parades as the Thai-Chinese population celebrates.
If you’re planning on heading to the beach, the Andaman Coast is a good choice. It’s the dry summer season here, and during Krabi’s Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon, a walk-able sand bar opens up between three islands at low tide. It’s monsoon season over in the Gulf of Thailand, especially Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. For cultural experiences, head to Chiang Mai for the Bo Sang Umbrella and San Kampheng Handicrafts Festival, which includes a parade, cultural shows and a traditional market.

In February it’s summer in the central, northeastern and southern regions of Thailand, but it’s the rainy season in the Gulf of Thailand. Temperatures across the country range between 23°C and 33°C, but it’s coolest in the north, where winter lingers on – perfect weather for the Chiang Mai Flower Festival.
There are plenty of other cultural events to experience, too. Makha Bucha Day is one of the most important Buddhist holidays of the year, with temple ceremonies and rituals around Thailand commemorating the Buddha’s famous ‘Ovada Patimokkha’ teaching. Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, depending on the lunar calendar. The King Narai Festival in central Thailand's Lopburi province honours King Narai the Great making Thailand a centre of culture, religion and diplomacy. Valentine’s Day is celebrated with a twist in the south, as just off the beautiful beaches of Trang, underwater wedding ceremonies are carried out for qualified divers.

March marks the start of summer for most of Thailand, but on the Gulf coast in the south, it’s still the rainy monsoon season – for drier weather you’ll need to head across to Phuket or Krabi on the Andaman side. Temperatures across the country are pleasant, between 25°C and 34°C, so it’s definitely beach weather.
For a cultural fix, watch the Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony in the central province of Ayutthaya, where Thai boxers honour their instructors. Foodies are in for a treat, as it’s the height of mango season in the south of Thailand. That’s also where Krabi’s Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon occurs – at low tide you can walk along a natural sand bar between Koh Kai, Koh Tup and Koh Mor islands.

By April, summer is well underway in Thailand. Visiting now means you’ll be able to take part in the famous Songkran celebrations that mark the traditional new year holiday. There’s a fun vibe at the large-scale water fights that take place in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, while locals perform traditional rituals like visiting their hometowns and paying respect to their elders. Buddhists visit local temples to pray and make spiritual offerings, too.
Daytime temperatures can reach 37°C, but be prepared for some rain on the southern coast along the Gulf of Thailand. April is also a good time to see the Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon in Krabi province – at low tide, you can walk along a natural sand bar between Koh Kai, Koh Tup and Koh Mor islands.

Summer continues throughout May for much of Thailand, with temperatures between 24°C and 34°C. But it’s also rainy in many parts of the country – the north, northeast and central regions, and along the Andaman coast in the south – so travel options are a little more limited.
Cultural highlights this month include the ancient rituals of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Bangkok, which is intended to bring good fortune for the upcoming rice-planting season. Visakha Bucha Day also falls in May, when temple ceremonies commemorate three defining events in the Buddha’s life. Things go off with a bang in the northeastern Isaan region, when the Rocket Festival sees home-made projectiles fired into the sky – locals believe this will encourage rainfall and a plentiful harvest.

It’s officially the rainy season in Thailand in June, making this a less popular time to travel – but that does mean there are fewer crowds to compete with. For beach options, it’s still dry on the southern Gulf coast, including islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, where temperatures are between 24°C and 33°C. Just keep in mind that the Andaman Coast and the north, northeast and central regions are wet around this time of the year.
In the northeastern province of Loei, Phi Ta Khon – or the Ghost Festival – is a unique sight: locals dress as spirits and make religious merit in an attempt to rid the town of bad omens. If you’re a foodie, it’s the eastern province of Chanthaburi you want to head to. Countless tropical fruits are in season, including notoriously pungent durian, and there’s no better place to try them than at the Chanthaburi Fruit Festival.

In July, the monsoon continues in the north, northeast and central regions of Thailand, as well as on the Andaman Coast in the south. Temperatures remain a comfortable 24°C to 33°C, but for dry, sunny beach weather, the southern Gulf islands of Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan are where you want to be.
King Vajiralongkorn’s birthday is celebrated nationwide towards the end of the month – look out for ornate street decorations in Bangkok's old town. July also sees the Asanha Bucha religious holiday, when temple ceremonies mark the anniversary of the Buddha’s first sermon. The day after is the start of the three-month Buddhist Lent season, when monks traditionally stay within their temple and many Thai Buddhists choose to abstain from alcohol. If you’re in the northeast, look out for the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, when awe-inspiring giant candles are paraded through the city’s streets.

Beach options in Thailand remain limited in August: the rainy season still isn’t letting up, and just about the only places for reliable dry weather are southern Gulf coast islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Like the previous months, it’s still warm – between 24°C and 33°C on most days – but heavy rain is a common occurrence in the north, northeast and central regions and on the Andaman Coast down south.
The middle of August marks the birthday of Queen Dowager Sirikit, the wife of the late King Bhumibol, so you’re likely to see her portrait displayed even more prominently around the country at this time. Street decorations and ceremonies to pay respects are also likely in Bangkok's old town.

Temperatures drop ever so slightly in September, to between 24°C and 32°C, as Thailand's rainy monsoon season slowly begins to come to an end. There are still frequent downpours in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as on the Andaman Coast in the south.
If it’s sunbathing under a clear blue sky you’re looking for, Gulf coast islands like Koh Samui and Koh Tao remain your best bet at this time of year. The gradual change in weather does make it a good time to visit the northern and central regions for a glimpse of the photogenic sea of mist from the top of some of Thailand's most scenic peaks. Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai and Khao Krajom in Ratchaburi are both good options.

It’s the last month of Thailand's long-running rainy season, but also one of the hardest months to find somewhere with reliably sunny weather. Temperatures range from 23°C to 31°C, but it’s rainy in the north, northeast and central regions, and also on southern Thailand's Gulf coast, including islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.
The drier, sunnier weather gets underway in Andaman coastal destinations such as Krabi and Phuket, but it’s still a bit hit and miss this month. The annual Vegetarian Festival is another reason to visit Phuket, though – it’s at its most colourful here, with a parade of spiritual sacrifices. The festival is also big in Bangkok: look out for yellow flags on street stalls selling vegan food. It’s still a good time to see the sea of mist in the northern and central regions, too.

Winter is underway at last come November, with temperatures dropping to between 22°C and 30°C around the country. The weather is generally dry and the skies clear in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as on the south's Andaman Coast. But that means it’s time for the Gulf coast to have its rainy stint, so islands like Koh Samui and Koh Tao aren’t great for sunbathing right now.
Loy Krathong is November's cultural highlight: perhaps Thailand's most picturesque festival of all, it involves locals paying respect to the goddess of the waters by floating intricately decorated floral rafts on canals and rivers. It coincides with the Yi Peng festival in Chiang Mai, when thousands of paper lanterns are released in an incredible nighttime display. And in Lopburi, a special, large-scale feast is laid on for the city’s enormous monkey population to give thanks for the apes’ contribution to the tourism industry.

December is the coolest month in Thailand's calendar, with refreshing temperatures ranging from 21°C to 29°C. You can expect dry, breezy weather and bright blue skies just about everywhere around the country except for the Gulf coast in the south, where the local monsoon season is underway.
This time of year is prime beach holiday season in Thailand, and spots like Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi are among the best options. If you’re in Krabi, you might even be able to catch the Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon, when a walkable sand bar connects three islands at low tide. The late King Bhumibol’s birthday is also marked at the beginning of December – you’ll see gatherings of varying sizes around Thailand, and particularly large-scale street decorations and ceremonies in Bangkok's old town.

You’ll find the best weather in Thailand between November and April in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as along the Andaman Coast in the south. Temperatures range from 21°C to 37°C overall, but things are at their coolest in December and begin heating up as April approaches. The only part of Thailand where the weather isn’t great between November and April is the Gulf coast in the south, which is in the middle of its rainy season – that rules out islands like Koh Samui if you’re planning to spend time on the beach.

Bangkok is an amazing city with something for everyone. For me in particular, I love street food and Bangkok has more street food than I have every seen and it's cheap cheap cheap! The mass transit system takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you do understand it, it is easy and convenient. I you plan on staying in the Bangkok, I highly recommend that you use public transportation (trains, buses, taxi, tuk tuk), as traffic is crazy and renting a car basically useless.
for me personally the best place to be in Koh Samui. Closed to shops and everything you need as a tourist
Beautiful big pools. Next to the beach. Excellent WiFi and breakfast. Great beach to snorkel
Great and very nice place to visit. Recommended to visit this place.
Great beach with safe swimming, provided you always watch very young children. White sand and very little pollution apart from at high tide when there is some about. Shade trees help to keep the sun off. A popular beach with locals and visitors alike
Lovely place away from the hassle and bustle of big cities. Highly recommend, affordable, and perfect getaway.
Probably one of the most beautiful beaches of koh phangan! Lovely beach, lovely villages, great nature, amazing views. Perfect for a romantic or a relaxing getaway.
We loved our stay on the River hopping on and off the ferrys seeing the temples. 3 nights was perfect. We spend 6 more nights in a hotel right by the BTS which was also a perfect location but should have only spent 3 more nights and chose to go to another location either at a bungalow at the national park or the beach. The floating market, train market, temples, boat rides and street fairs were so much fun!!
Bangla road is Amazing. Patong beach is fully action packed for those who love crowds and very busy life. Watch out for Jelly fish before hitting the waters. Those at the beach will tell you. Most places are nearby with just a waik but if you dont know the transporters will make a kill from you
Love there , careful bungalow price on hight session.
It lovely old town, clean , and have historicus. People quite frindly . Nice to spend a night in the city or beach nearby town .
Great area to stay near airport to catch a flight. Has airport shuttle. Staff are awesome. Local mall nearby with delicious Thai local food
Bangkok is an exciting international city combining the traditional and contemporary attractions. The food is amazing and there are many public transportation options. Shopping is world class. Driving in the downtown area can be challenging due to heavy traffic.
Beautiful nature, amazing beaches. But if you want to explore the island you need a scooter. Some little shops with stuff you need, but nothing special. It is a remote island without big infrastructure, so i enjoyed the feeling of a bit adventure. And as i mentioned, the nature was spectaculous. .
The best city in Thailand for backpacking and hippies.
Amazing place with wonderful people and many interesting places to visit
Тем, кто приезжает на короткое время, на экскурсию, остров может показаться не таким тихим, как он есть, из-за большого количества туристов. Но дальние пляжи прекрасные и тихие. Правда есть отливы.
I had a good time there but will have to go back to explore the area more.
Would definitely have liked to spend a few more days in the City. Travelling to the sights via the river was an asset. Enjoyed the food courts at Asiatique which is easily reached just a short walk from the hotel. The experience of the varied forms of transport in Bangkok was an event in itself.
If you are traveling as a family with small children, then Chaweng Noi is just right. Few people, no loud music or anything, no vendors. It's really wonderful to just hang out there for a day. And the best thing: you can also get a massage straight away or go to a bar to get drinks or food.
Great city absolutely jumping but at the same time so hot
Partying in Pattaya is fantastic. Wonderful culture and people in Thailand.
Nice trips even the weather was pretty hot but so much activity to do !
Long, sandy beach, little bit narrow during high tide. Nice for walking, fantastic scenery (islands, mountains). A lot of bars and restaurants along the street next to the beach. Option for kayaking, long tail boats.
View was SPECTACULAR. Many coffee shops and cafes in the area. Many fresh markets but will transport to reach them.
Khao Lak is the area for people who are after chill vibe on beautiful beaches! During the season there are very unique trips to beautiful areas like the Similian Islands, Surin, khao Sok is very close so it's perfectly located. You can find very luxurious hotels, and budget ones, the beaches are amazing and as i said- the feeling of havong a lot of space in general is still here... vs. areas like Phuket...
Bangkok is apparently the most visited city in the world. Even having loved in London and New York, I found the noise and traffic overwhelming. And it is a large, sprawled out city as well. Fortunately public transportation is excellent. You must visit Chatachuk Market! One of the world's "must see" cities.
I have stayed over and over at the Shanti Lodge. I love it… the people, the location, and the atmosphere. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Bangkok!
Beach, restaurants, people and this travel agency called Phuket AREA Tour who helps us arranged several trips specially Phi Phi island and James Bond island along with Phuket Fantasea Show. We had good time in Patong.
Would definitely come back to try more tom yum and phad thai
Quiet suburb of Pattaya just 10-15 minutes away, safe yet with many bars restaurants Nice beach and community, a yearly return place for sure
Bangkok is a lovely city with lovely and welcoming people. The security is very assuring in all places. Prices for tourists are very affordable for visiting, foods and entertainments. It could be because of the season (June is one of sale months in bangkok) prices of items were so affordable that we had to buy extra suitcase.
Great country with welcoming and friendly people .
Incredible views, scuba diving , secluded coves for snorkel and swimming!
If your going for great night life, drinking and parying, Pattaya is for you. Other experiences were limited.
It is a little quieter than central Pattaya with good restaurants and a few nice pubs. The beach is reasonably nice.
Much nicer location than Ao Nang. Clean beach and waters. Few hotels and enough shops, restaurants, taxi services on the road behind hotels. Ao Nang close enough to go in every day if you wanted. 400/500bht each way. Tours run from hotels - book via hotel or tour operators on back street. Great bar/restaurant on the beach. Hotels are directly on the sand.
Don’t really want to review this beach town because it is a very cool and local feeling beach town without a lot of farangs running around. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay here. I want to keep it secret.
Paradise for silent work and feeling peaceful environment
Bangkok is a dynamic city. It's truly a part of land of smiles. The locals I met were friendly. The public facilities are well. The street foods are what keep me coming back.
Pattaya is great for long staff. Residents in the city are more polite than other cities of Thailand. No traffic jam and ease of travel by car/taxi
Here on mission for non-profit, but the food and scenery were lovely. Very relaxing stay
The place is clean and has a very family-friendly environment! Everything from shopping, groceries, and beaches are nearby. The complex has a huge swimming pool built around the complex, wonderful.
Lovely people, feel of luxury and excellent customer service. Getting around Bangkok was fairly easy. We had a complementary shuttle that drove us to the closest mall ( mercury village). That connected with a sky walk to other malls and the metro station. Tuk tuk and taxis were plentiful. Didn’t really hit the sites this was more of a slow relaxing leisurely break.
There is a reason why Bangkok is a good repeat destination for tourists from near and far - the mix of history, good food, shopping, quirky neighbourhoods, nightlife and most importantly- the warmth friendliness from the locals and staff in the tourism industry make the Land of Thousand Smiles - a well deserved accolade!
The main reason why I come to Bangkok is the food and nightlife. The shopping is also very good.
i love the shopping mall😍i love the food good and clean ambiance
I like the relaxing beach front along Dongtan Beach/Jomtien during the day. In the evening windup and enjoy the interactive and entertaining live band at the Sandbar By The Sea - Dongtan Beach. If travelling with a car, parking is pretty safe even overnight on the sides of the main road in front of Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel & Resort.
if you are into night life, local thai cuisine and shopping malls and body massages , this city got all. getting around bangkok is very easy, specially BTS sky train and MRT mode of transportation is great, GRAB bikes to avoid traffic. down side rainy season and humidity.
Great place to unwind, away from the hustle bustle
Five time we return to Koh Tao fantastic island but better you know "VERY" well to drive mototor bike , ret at least a 160 cc 125 cc wont do
Breakfast is good, but it would be better if you added nan or paratha and dal
Bangkok is an amazing city with endless things to see and do and eat. The many nightmarkets and shopping malls, beautiful temples and affordable accomodation are great for holidays.
Bangkok is a place you will go back to. You will enjoy shopping, visit the temples, party until morning. You can do whatever and whenever. A country to visit!
Bangkok has a lot to offer, and even after many visits, I continue to discover new places and things. On this trip, among my new discoveries were the museums and sightseeing by boat along the canals. Personally, I make Bangkok the hub of my trips and usually go to one or more other areas to see what Thailand has to offer. The people are friendly and helpful and there are some that I see on each trip.
It's a pretty laid-back city with most attractions within reasonable walking distance from Petit Paramata. Walking along the river is great and a stop for an open-air foot massage highly recommended,
Karon Beach has a clean sand and water. We had a great experience to swim here. It is quite easy to get around Karon Beach for anybody, who likes walking. The beach was not crowded in October - one of the best advantages from my point of view.
It is near Pattaya and I think the beach is cleaner and nicer comparing to Pattaya beach with the crowd.
Wonderful experience with friendly people everywhere. Beautiful surroundings and sights abound.
Mae Chaem is an amazing little village with great air quality, which is a rare thing in Thailand. With lots of greenery and nature trails, you'll never get bored in this place. Food is also cheap and tasty. The people are nice and always smiling. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nature retreat.
Relaxing atmosphere , but not as Maldives or other beaches in Thailand
I really like this City. Has everything what I need. Very close to Bangkok, only 1-2h driving.
Quick stay near airport but u need resort style - Go for it Almost no vegetarian options but other food options and fruit quality is 9/10 . Welcoming staff , Free shuttle to airport and back , just little water smell with little noise from the street traffic but not a factor for not experiencing their hospitality. We were lucky that we could experience LOY Krathong festival and enjoyed buffet. If there is regular buffet - Go for it .
Beautiful woman. Very hectic traffic congestion. No room to walk safely. Everyone was very friendly. Always cheerful and smiling.
It was interesting to experience peaceful community where Mosgues are located not far from temples. Its relatively silent and great for people who escaped city noise and active city life.
It’s a very big city takes awhile to get around when you don’t know the city so short satays are difficult
Great clean beach with lovely sand and trees. Check out the airplanes flying over.
Lovely town at the banks fo the Mekong river. Beautiful boardwalk for walking and cycling, while seeing Laos on the other side.
I love my staying there, the location was perfect and the staff very polite and kind
Phra Khanong is three skytrain (BTS) stations east of the most modern shopping malls on Sukhumvit Road. With the W district it offers a great outdoor seating place with a great variety of food stalls to choose from. A few refreshingly alternative bars are nearby, not the typical tourist scene.
Really lovely city with a ton of charm, delicious food, and kind people. Easy access to elephant sanctuaries and several stunning temples just outside the city. I was only there for 2 days, and I really wish I’d stayed longer! Our favorite meal by far was at Rodlamun — try the chive buns and pomelo salad!
