Mar Lodj

The guest house offers an African restaurant as well as free WiFi. Mar and her husband Abdou are great hosts who really make you feel welcome from the heart! We stayed for a whole week with them and felt like being at home :) They provide you with all the info you need and organize a smooth transport from Dakar to their place for the guests (if needed) at a fair price. Mar Lodj is a great chance to experience real Senegalese country side life and the Sahel. It is an island in the river delta and the four villages on the island are well worth visiting. Many excursions and activities are possible and all can be organized by Mar and her family and nice bathing spots on the river-delta (good for swimming in clean water!) can be reached in only a few minutes. The accomodation provides full board if you like and always has cool drinks at hand which is great in the often hot climate in the afternoon. Nguel du Saloum is built with in traditional courtyard style with has a cozy feeling - so lying in one of the hammocks or on a sofa in the open air living room in the shade is just great any time! Solar panels insure constant power supply and we highly respect the effort Mar and Abdou went/go through in order to supply such a nice accomodation in a place where supply of goods and infrastructure can be really limited at times! (transport on the island is by horse-carriage (great!) as there are no roads (wonderful, no car horns, no traffic fumes and jams!) - just to give you an idea ) Thanks again for everything, Mar and Abdou and we hope that many more people find their way to your wonderful place! It is really worth visiting and we truly hope to come back again to see you again at Nguel du Saloum in the future (with "el musculator" of course :)!

Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a shared kitchen and full-day security, along with free WiFi throughout the property. There is free private parking and the property features paid airport shuttle service. Céline's place is excellent - located in the fairly large village of Toubakouta, close to the border with the Gambia, and sitting right on the Sine Saloum Delta. The rooms are large and comfortable, equipped with Mosquito nets, showers and plenty of storage space. The atmosphere around the lodge is relaxed and comfortable, with communal spaces for sitting and chatting, playing games (also provided) and taking meals together. The food is also very good, with fresh bread from the local bakery, homemade jams, juices and yogurt and even some Korean options. There are numerous activities to take part in, easy to choose from from a 'a la carte' book (in Both English and French). This includes things like boats or kayaks in the Delta, guided tours of the region on foot or bike, as well as more surprising options like Tai Chi, African Drumming or lessons on cookery. We took part in a day-long trip with local guide Doudou (who is also excellent) on the water to some of the island and villages in the Delta, and it was fantastic as we got to lunch together with some local people in the Senegalese style. If you're not sure what you would like to do, there's Céline can also help guide you and many of the choices can be arranged at fairly short notice, meaning it's perfectly possible to show up with no plans and just take it from there. Finally, its also worth mentioning that Céline and her husband Gilles who run the Keur Niaye, are also well-known and clearly well respected within the community. They, and their staff, support a number of good causes across Toubakouta and the surrounding area.

The pelican filled island of Sanghomar and the mangroves of Javier. The warm reception at a rest hole by an artistic local soul. The dive in the Atlantic from this island. A 13,000 cfa per kg of fresh sea lobsters for dinner. The hotel is beautiful, very clean and very quiet. Amazing place to relax. The breakfast was really good and we loved the omelette. Great cocktails in the bar.
Very nice location, private parking We used the fully furnished kitchen buying fresh fish at market
The best place I stayed at in Senegal. The room has a super-comfortable bed, a fully equipped kitchen, fridge, private bathroom and a little area to sit outside. The pool is great to refresh after a stroll through the town. Best of all are the owners - so helpful. The price is unbeatable. Highly recommended.
Good accommodation and quiet surroundings. Staff and owner was friendly and respectful.
- friendly and helpful staff. we felt right at home, as part of the bingo family <3 - Madame bingo’s food was exceptional. we didn’t even want to eat anywhere else - day trip on the river was great, really peaceful and quiet - Amadou organised someone to take us to our next destination, at the Gambian border, and made sure that we were taken care of in the chaos of the Senegal/Gambia border
The location is beautiful, very quiet and serene. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Love their eco approach.
I didn't expect so luxury accommodation in this part of world. It was like oasis in the desert. Lorette and Christophe are great hosts, thank you again.
