The host was completely fluent in English and Portuguese, and answered lots of questions about the town and surrounding area. The room was large and quiet, with a large spotless bath. The hotel is in perfect condition, it’s fairly new and everything is high quality. The host, Joana, made the experience even better. She always went the extra mile to make sure that we are comfortable. Even better, she helped me buy and prepare things for my friend’s birthday I also liked that there is a kitchen so you can easily cook your meals as well and all the utilities are there.

Located in the centre of Manteigas, Casa D’Avenida is a newly renovated family house, sited within the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. I arrived in a rather dishevelled state after a motorcycle accident on the mountain tracks. Josefa and her daughter were extremely helpful and provided icepacks for a swollen hand and ibuprofen gel as well as directions to the health centre. I ended up spending over a week here and was treated like family. I have never known such unconditional hospitality. They even let me leave my motorcycle at their house while I came back to the UK as I was unable to ride for 12 weeks. The accommodation comprises four rooms of which two have balconies. The breakfast provided was comprehensive with most things you could want. All areas of the accommodation were spotless and cleaned every day.
