One of the best bed and breakfasts we have stayed in. Lovely old property with large comfortable room. Great breakfasts and friendly hosts.
Good local tips for dining and sightseeing.
Followed the recommendation to stop at Mount Jukes lookout near Queenstown for spectacular views.

We drove to Ormiston House, Strahan from Cradle Mountain having spent the morning viewing the sights. We were met by Rose, the owner, who sat us down and briefed us on our room and got the details from each of us on what we would like for our specially tailored continental breakfast and what time we would like it. It was as if we were being introduced to an exclusive club, and this continued when Rose showed us our room, the Amelia Room with its bathroom with its claw foot bath overlooking the gardens. After checking in to the room we then were met by Rose's husband Terry, who greeted us with a glass of wine and talked us through the history of the Ormiston Family and the house and their connections with Strahan and nearby Queenstown, he then walked us through the house explaining its features and took us up into the tower to see the view and also view artefacts relating to the Ormiston family that he had collected and arranged in the tower room. We marvelled that each guest received a similar greeting and briefing. It set the standard for our three night stay. We were told about the Gordon River cruise which we had already booked, and also about the play which was staged each evening on the amphitheatre on the waterfront. It told the story of 10 convicts who working as boatbuilders highjacked the boat and sailed it to Chile. It has been running for some 30 years and each night's production is a world-record for an Australian play, only of course to be broken the following night. We were punchdrunk after all of this, but Ormiston and its grounds at No. 1 The Esplanade is the perfect place and perfect setting to explore Strahan, its harbour, the Gordon River, the wilderness, a trip on the Wilderness Railway to Queenstown.

It had a beautiful cosy and homely feel. Everything was in walking distance along the path and the gardens out the front were lovely. The whiskey was a lovely touch for a night cap.

Wonderful house and beautifully cared for by the friendly knowledgeable couple who manage it - they really have done the community a favour, it’s sad that the national trust don’t spend more on the upkeep and garden.
I usually prefer modern properties - so was reluctant but loved all the little touches and the decor feels like a big elegant family home.

What I liked most about the location was the free parking right outside. Before that, you have to park a street away for.
Ralph, the owner, could tell so much about the past, the area, the routes, and help with planning your trip itinerary.
He shared a lot about Tasmania, the developments, Queenstown, and even details about where exactly the B&B was located. The breakfast, was amazing. Thank you so much!
For travellers who enjoy beauty in the simple things, a bed and breakfast (B&B) is the perfect place for a getaway. Hosts welcome guests into their homes and provide a private room and complimentary breakfast. Bathrooms may be shared by other guests, and there is often shared space with the host.
The Quarters is an incredibly beautiful home with luxury surroundings and peace and quiet to truly relax and rest. I am looking forward to bringing my husband along for the next trip as I know he too will enjoy the space.
Thank you to the owners for your time and care. Your home makes a massive difference to others and I am incredibly grateful for it.
Great location. Quiet, clean, excellently appointed with everything we needed. Really good size. Great bedding, tons of pillows. Abundance of hot water, good shower in the massive bathroom.
Location is great and quiet. The surrounding holiday houses are very poor constructed and maintained. The whole area looks like a cheap camp site next to the water. Breakfast is very poor. only opened half pack of bread, some cereal, honey and jam, no other things at all.
My husband and I loved our three nights' stay at Annie and Peter's place, which was quiet and situated in a great location just 10 minutes walk from Strahan CBD and a few minutes from the IGA. The accommodation was a studio, but it was large, exceptionally clean, well laid out, and thoughtfully equipped. Annie was a lovely host, happy to share local knowledge, and very accommodating. We'd stay again and therefore recommend
Like a sweet little home away from home! Totally peaceful and quiet. So private and relaxing. Loved the gas fireplace, too easy and just perfect for the cold winter nights, warmed me to the soul. And the spa bath! What a treat. Great location, walking distance to everything I wanted in Strahan.
