Hooky (nz)

New Zealand born with Maori heritage, Music is part of the culture. Seeing family sing and play instruments was an eye opener to musical expression but it would be seeing a DJ at age 11 on TV using turntables that would spark a life long interest. Taking massive influence from 90s hip hop, specifically heavily sampled music would create the backbone of Hooky’s music. Digging into the music played in his youth was a treasure trove of unlimited possibilities. With past releases on many different Record labels under different pseudonyms (Sean Murray, Mr Hooky, Soulfoundation) these were all different stages of a life long search for his own sound. Hooky leans on a lot of musical influences, From NZ dub to the varies styles of disco and house and of course, Hip hop.
