Story
From the master of tragicomedy and award-winning author of Skippy Dies: a tour de force new novel about family, fortune, and the struggle to be a good person when the world is (maybe) ending. Irresistibly funny, wise and thought-provoking, a state-of-the-nation novel about one unhappy family in the midst of meltdown.

Story
Eleven-year-old Gopi has been playing squash since she was old enough to hold a racket. When her mother dies, her father enlists her in a quietly brutal training regimen, and the game becomes her world. Slowly, she grows apart from her sisters. Her life is reduced to the sport, guided by its rhythms: the serve, the volley, the drive, the shot and its echo.

Story
Benjamin Honey- American, Bantu, Igbo- born enslaved- freed or fled at fifteen- aspiring orchardist, arrived on the island with his Irish wife, Patience, and discovered they could make a life together there. More than a century later, the Honeys' descendants remain, with an eccentric, diverse band of neighbours. Then comes the intrusion of 'civilization': officials determine to 'cleanse' the island, and a missionary schoolteacher selects one light-skinned boy to save. The rest will succumb to the authorities' institutions or cast themselves on the waters in a new Noah's Ark.

Story

It is 1866 and Walter Moody has come to make his fortune upon the New Zealand goldfields. On arrival, he stumbles across a tense gathering of 12 local men, who have met in secret to discuss a series of unsolved crimes. A wealthy man has vanished, a whore has tried to end her life, and an enormous fortune has been discovered in the home of a luckless drunk. Moody is soon drawn into the mystery: a network of fates and fortunes that is as complex and exquisitely patterned as the night sky.

Story
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Critic Reviews
'The comparisons are inevitable – Saramago, Orwell, McCarthy – but this novel will stand entirely on its own.' (Colum McCann, author of Apeirogon)
'Monumental ... You remember why fiction matters. It's hard to recall a more powerful novel in recent years.' (Samantha Harvey, author of The Western Wind)

Superb
This novel is certainly not Dystopian at all!! It's such a horrific, inhuman, depressing portrayal of all peoples everywhere who escape brutality, cruelty and uncertainty and embark upon challenging journeys on sea to a future less brutal!! Thanks to the brilliant author for this utterly realistic work.

A Haunting Tale
It is distrubing story of authoritarianism, rebellion and common people caught in between. A haunting tale of a mother with children ranging from a young child barely a toddler to a young adult. She is trying to do the best for the remaining after losing her husband and her eldest to the conflict.
At times it reads like poetry, the description of emotions and conflicting thoughts is vivid and gripping. I liked the book but also found it very disturbing, a world far away from the safe and predictable one that one is familiar with.

Sullen story.. throughout.
A far-future avatar of far-rightism is portrayed in excellent manner. A mother's struggle to hold her family together, that eventually doesn't remain a family.
Eilish's last words in the book "we must go to sea" are like a glimmer in the eyes of an old old man.
Exciting, breathtaking, tear shedding.

Average read focusing more on internal human monologue
It’s a pretty average read, based on a dystopian universe . The writing focuses more on the internal human monologue and what the protagonist feels and goes through. Very little to keep me hooked to the book. Slightly confusing in the beginning with so many characters and gender neutral names
