still one of the best listens in recent years

This series has solidified its stance in my top three over the past releases. I was weary of the tournament in book three and got something far better than expected/ feared. book four has a lot of setup for book five, leaving me in the same spor I was before book three. let's see where we end up this time.

the story itself is still a joy to listen to. Nice humour, entertaining story and an impressive performance by Travis Baldree.

Hopefully book 5 arrives soon.

Feels a bit disjionted

As expected a stellar performance by Andrea Parsneau.
The story feels a bit disjointed or disconnected.
A lot of storyline, all of them leading nowhere (yet). A lot of setup, no payoffs.

I hope book three picks up the pace again.

The book is as entertaining as most entries in the series. But I would say this book is mostly setup for things to come. the titular empress of beasts is only part of a small fraction in this book.

a lot of things start to happen but few threads conclude.
this is not a bad thing though. no annoying cliffhangers but good buildup for coming entries.

Andrea Parsneau still does an exceptional job narrating.

Bland and unmemorable

I have to agree with the other reviews. Part one feels unnecessarily padded. I spans over several months and at no point there is a sense of urgency or threat. Everything just turns out fine with little to little to no effort.
Biggest plus would be some character development on Neill.
Part two is a padded out lore dump.
This book did not conclude the current story satisfactory nor did it set up an interesting premise for the next one.

I found book 10 already disappointing and hoped for something more compelling. Instead I got this.

Chances are this was my last book in this series.
There are better written characters in more compelling stories than this.

Not on par with Wandering Inn

All in all its a good audio book, while I find the singing a bit awkward.

The book is a nice supplement to The Wandering Inn but stand alone it might be a tough.
Gives some lore and World building to the main series.
Still one of the better litrpg entries currently available.

Will wait for book two and see how it develops.

By far the weakest one (so far)

Made the "mistake" of listening to the first three books just recently. The drop in quality from the first few books to this one is jarring. This installment is just sad

The first 20 - 30 chapters had almost made me quit. Nothing of relevance is happening and side characters devolve into Jason light.
Everyone is doing their best to be unlikeable and dishing out poor one liners and quips. Individuality is being replaced by bad attempts at humour.

"X is kind of my / his / her thing!" Is being dropped in every conversation like no ones business.

Mid section is forgettable. Only the last 15 - 20 chapters add something of substance, but end on a cliffhanger.

Weary of the next book. Needs to improve significantly or the series will finish its decent into same old lit rpg schlock and obscurity.

Still going strong

Was a bit weary when the second book ended with a hook to the tournament. My fear was that the story would turn into the same like all other lit rpg books.
But the author still maintained the spirit of the first 2 books.

There is some action, but it never becomes a lame boring or overwhelming.

There is still a good number of laughs yo be had and i think people were wondering why i was grinning all the time when listening to this while commuting.

Definitely in my top three series right now.

You certainly need the previous books to appreciate the series and this books place in it.
While it is funny in places it also goes into serious/ emotional topics whiteout hesitation. And the author is able to pull it off.
No small part in this plays the narration and audio direction. Simply superb.

Enjoyed this one as much as the ones before it.

Looking forward to the next entries.

Unfocused and boring

Book one had an interesting premise but never used it properly.
Book 2 became very unfocused, basically all over the place
Book three is just more lit RPG trash. Nothing new or interesting added to the formula. But more of the uninteresting and bad / boring writing.
Bounced of the book a few hours in. Hard pass on book four.
