The movie fan. Now the book fan too.
Erik Steele did a great job narrating this book and was very engaging. If you're a fan of the movie, you'll be a fan of the book too.
The movie isn't an exact replica of the book, but the main elements of the movie are here in the book.

Classic but Dated
A great book, if you ignore the weirdly sexual sub-plot and odd use of words here and there. Skip chapter 8 if you don't want to be cringing the whole time. Otherwise an excellent reading by Erik Steele who I don't envy for having to read some of these gross sentences out loud. I would suggest if you are interested in the main plot of a man-eating shark, watch the movie, just trust me.

That subplot was unexpected…
And completely unnecessary. But as a free listen from audible sub, as a fan of the franchise I didn’t regret the time spent. The characters really make the story. But the Ellen Brady subplot, just no. You’ll see what I mean when you hear it.

Lack of detail from the author, and a lack of expression from the narrator.

A classic.
The narration by Erik Steele was perfect. Chief Brody’s dialogue actually sounded like Roy Scheider himself, unifying the original book and Spielberg’s movie with a fond memory.

Terrifying
The deaths at the hands of the shark are far more sinister than its movie counterpart, overall a great listen.

Iconic
First off, the narration was superb.
The story itself is iconic for a reason and it's clear why the rights for a film adaption were purchased before the novel even released.
While I've seen complaints that not every side story present in the book moves the plot forward, I personally found that they were ideally situated and brought the novel together. After all, this isn't the story of a shark but the story of a coastal town and the people who live there faced with a nightmarish tragedy none of them are prepared for.

great read I thoroughly enjoyed it
excellent story with great suspense, the book makes the movie look and sound tame, the added story elements involving the mayor and Ellen Brodys tryst with Matt Hopper gave the story more volume
