About this listen

All I want to do is get to work on time. But he’s trying to steal my cab, and that’s not going to happen. In the midst of the battle, I discover I don’t have my wallet. So I bargain - a free ride for a kiss. His lips taste like mint, and when he tugs me closer, I can feel the hard muscles beneath his expensive suit. The kiss ends just as we reach our destination, and I’m so taken aback by the explosiveness of it, I rush out without so much as a good-bye.

I’m a hopeless romantic with no time for distractions. But fate, that bitch, has us pounding on the same locked door. Already knowing I’m going to be fired, I curse my new boss and his new rules. The hot suit laughs and dares me to tell my new boss what a dick he’s being. With nothing to lose, I accept.

Never in a million years could I have imagined he is my new boss. Dating him is against the rules - his rules. Yet when he says let’s keep things casual, I dare him not to fall in love with me. And so it begins.

But there’s a reason rules aren’t meant to be broken, and finding that out is the hardest thing I’ll ever do in life. My hot suit has a name: it’s Prince Maximus Montgomery. And this is our story.

British thoughts for a Texan?

I really enjoyed the storyline and the narrators but having a British Narrator for a character who was a Texan was a big turn off for me. When speaking Gigi’s lines she had a perfect American (although not southern) accent - but Gigi’s thought we’re read in her British accent.... it was just a little too much for me and took away from the experience. being a native Texan I just couldn’t get past it so I switched to reading the book instead. But a great story overall.

Fun

Another fun royal story, this time following Max, the ex-fiance from the prior story, and Gigi, an American. Max and Gigi work together and they have great chemistry but it can't go any further because Max is the next would-be-king due to some issues at home. I thought it flowed well and there was even some intrigue and action so overall, well rounded. It felt a little repetitive in that Max and Gigi had to keep dealing with the "but she's a commoner" aspect of their relationship. I guess that is just the challenge of a royal romance!

The narration was good. Hamish Long has a beautifully smooth voice and accent. I also did find it a little odd that Zara Hampton Brown read normally with her beautiful accent and then converted to American for her parts with Gigi. It did bring me out of the story. Otherwise, it was a good listen.

Confused About the Narrators/Story

The female lead is from Texas and lives in New York - she has a British accent and uses British phrases. The male lead accent sounds like he is from all European countries...I can't keep up. I am confused and I will return this book without finishing it.
