About this listen

When Dante Galand was just a boy, his father, Larsin, sailed away to make his fortune. And never returned. Since then, Dante has become a great sorcerer. A ruler. A destroyer of kings. And he's just learned that his father is living on a forbidden island at the edge of the known world. Where he's dying of a mysterious plague.

In the company of his friend, the swordsman Blays, Dante travels to the island. There, his magic can do nothing for his father. As Dante and Blays quest for a cure - beset by strange beasts, angry spirits, and violent coastal raiders known as the Tauren - Dante falls sick, too. To save his father and himself, he'll have to rediscover the island's long-lost magic. But the hunt for its secrets leads Dante on a crash course with the Tauren - and island-wide civil war. And as he's away, an old threat begins to move against his homeland.

Set in a USA Today best-selling world, The Red Sea is the first in a trilogy of warfare, sorcery, and friendship through the darkest times.

Find the thing!

Firstly, can we acknowledge that Tim Gerard Reynolds is a Gold Standard of Fantasy voice talent?

Secondly, you'll need to find the thing.

The book's plot is a little repetitive for my taste as it became: Find a ship, find a cure, find your father, find another cure, find your captured friend, find a new boat, find a new cure, no really find one, find a way to a new island, find some seeds, find a way to grow them, EPIC BATTLE and find your father's ghost.

I enjoyed it, but it felt like I was playing Zelda.

Wonderful addition to an amazing preceding trilogy

The story remains as engaging as the first trilogy. As before the narration by Tim Reynolds is astounding and perfect for Robertson's story. I'm excited about buying the physical copies of this and the three other books while waiting for the rest of the series.

Exciting

I was a big fan of the Cycle of Arawn and am very excited to see what develops for blays and dante in thw the cycle od galand. the banter between the two is hilarious and the magic and fantasy of the novels is mesmerizing.

interesting story. fun characters.

I love the characters. A lot of people have complained about the wit of all the character, but I enjoy it. The story is very much on the rails and there aren't many things that are unexpected. at the end of the day everything is super enjoyable and fun to listen too. I'll continue to read/listen to the remainder of the series. just don't expect anything ground breaking.

just some plebs opinion

story was pretty good
could have used a little more 'dark' in the 'dark fantasy'
humor was sub-par

True entertainment

This is a great story. The adventures are fun and exciting and the author is able to throw in quite a few surprises along the way. Having read the previous cycle will help you understand much more of this book, but I would not say it's required.
