About this listen

Winner of The New Mexico-Arizona Book Award

When a teenage girl goes missing in Arizona, retired NYPD officer Jamie Butler is frantic to find her.

Haunted by the brutal murder of her own daughter, Jamie is convinced that this girl has been abducted in the same way.

There are inexplicable similarities to her own daughter’s abduction. Connections that seem impossible.

Because her daughter’s killer is long-dead.

But as her search for the missing teen intensifies, new evidence comes to light.

Evidence that implicates Jamie herself....

Award-winning author Shannon Baker delivers a gripping thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last minute. The Desert Behind Me is perfect for fans of Paula Hawkins, Sue Grafton, and J.A. Jance.

More Than Captivating

Curiously slow in the beginning, yet it is so emotionally descriptive, it becomes a Bullet Train Mind Ride.

Just ok

The narrator wasn’t very good and had a flat affect. This did not lend itself well to the story which came across as disjointed and disingenuous and times.

Meh

Story is alright. I think it would have been better with a good narrator. The narrator has a really hard time with separating different voices and paragraphs and intonation that affects meaning. I struggled with figuring out where the external and internal dialogue ended and began. If this book is free you could suffer it out but don’t waste an expensive credit on it.

Worst narrative ever. Hard to listen to.

The story was great. The performance of reading. It was very hard to listen to. I almost couldn’t finish the book. It was so bad.
