About this listen

The emo kid, the loner, the cynical wallflower with an attitude.

It's no secret that I've never quite fit in.

But it's glaringly obvious now that I've moved to this Podunk small town that seems to run entirely on sugar, friendliness, and cheer. (And cows, an ungodly number of cows.) I hate it—this place where everyone knows everyone, and I'm still the outsider.

Who wants to fit in anyway? I've never really tried, never even thought I wanted to…until I met him.

Jimbob is living his best life out here, farming the fields of Kansas, well and truly happy. And I just don't get it. His charming smiles, playful winks, and easy-going attitude infuriate me, but I can't look away. He's like a bright, sunny day sweeping through my prickly hailstorm.

I'm so utterly confused because I've never felt this way before. There's just something about Jimbob that makes me want to try. Makes me want to belong. Makes me want to put down roots in the glow of his sunshine.

My Go-to Feel good

This grumpy/sunshine story is so sweet and savory. Jim-Bob and Braxton appear to be opposite sides of the coin and maybe they are, but that only makes the relationship more, This book was my favorite little light read when it came out and I found myself returning to the small Kansas town where there seems to be some actual joy. No spoilers, but the ending is highly satisfying like a snickerdoodle latte :). The narration is perfect, especially the actor portraying the grump, Braxton- perfect snark!

wrong narrator can ruin a book

devon ryder was perfect for Jim Bob. Mark Haynes sounded 50 years old and was totally wrong to Braxton. wish devon would've narrated this book solo.

story was ok. why was Jim Bob soooo attracted to broody Braxton. never really explained. Just ok.

Cute, cute, and cute.

Just a flat out cute story. Loved it. It made me smile so much and the occasional grudgey tone made me laugh.

LOVE Devon Ryder!

this was such a sweet story, Jimbob is truly sunshine personified and a perfect example of a character that's sweet, smart, naive at times and still very interesting and entertaining to read

Devon Ryder was great and it's no surprise. I hope we get to see more of him soon because his past performances should have gotten him to be chosen for a lot of books by now

...now on to the "how dare you Podium" part

seems like the book was not read before choosing the narrators, I'm sure this falls completely on Podium and not the authors

Matt did a good job but he wasn't a good fit, he'd be incredible for mafia, dark romance, emotionally intese stories but not for a 20 year old confused moody guy. I had to listen to him at 2/2.7 speed because his deep tone of voice was getting me out of the story even though his acting was SO good. This character should have been narrated by a softer younger sounding voice like Iggy Toma, Cooper North, or Michael Gallagher

I'm still rating it 5 stars because the authors and narrators should not look bad when it was clearly not their fault.

Really enjoyed this!

Although I've enjoyed the performance of both Devon Ryder and Matt Haynes in prior works, I don't think their voices quite fit the characters Jimbob and Braxton...well, maybe Matt fit Braxton a bit more than Devon fit Jimbob. This was a short and sweet title and I look forward to future titles in this series - the characters introduced in this title made me feel like I want to experience more. I think the Cora Rose and Nicole Dykes collaboration is a success.

4 stars - worthy of a repeat listen

Fluffy and sweet

This was a cute fluff read. No angst, really cheesy at times, And very predictable. But it did make me laugh and swoon so I’d say give it a read if you need a pallet cleanser.

Disappointed

Who picks these narrators? They did not fit the characters at all. I told myself not to waste the $$ but I didn’t listen. These are young country boys and they sound like 40 year old men. Just going to stick with the book versions of her books from now on. I have yet to find a Cora Rose audio book with good dual narration.
