story is great, the narrator has zero range

the story is great as usual but I won't be buying another audiobook due to there being zero range and the breathes I can hear being taken every single time he speaks grinds on the nerves. Overall I'm unimpressed with the change and will be going back to the ebook instead.

And so the Ten Realms cried tears of mana.

The soul of the Ten Realms left with Todd.
I have a hard time telling the difference between the two main characters, or the difference in males and females of the realms.
This makes it hard to stay immersed, and I tend to zone out while listening. I hate to say it but this series ended at book 5 for me.

Poor narration

The new narrator is as monotone as it gets when he changes voices for a character he only changes it enough to discern between the 2 talking but its not consistent for each character and even then its as poor as an effort gets. I really enjoy these books and will continue to purchase the books. I dont think i will continue this journey through audible anymore.

Great story. Just didn't like the narrator change.

Enjoyed the book but the diverse characters did not feel/listen right with the new narrator. I hope the original comes back.

New Narrator, Still Great

Let me preface this by saying I’m not a Neil Hellegers fanboy. I have books he narrated that I love, and some I’ve returned, but they weren’t due to poor performance, just poor story writing.

So yes…. The narrator changed from Todd to Neil. That being said, it’s still a great book and I still love the story. I actually feel like Neil does a better job with the narration on almost every character; however, where most people will be turned off is the narration of Rugrat. Let’s be honest though, the only two characters that Todd put range and differences into were Eric and Rugrat. Every other character sounded like some old white guy making fun of chinese people by using a stereotypical old chinese man accent that some would consider racist if you actually spoke that way to a person from China. The change for Eric was fine and easy to transition into. The one for Rugrat falls flat, not so much because we got used to Todd’s HEAVY southern/redneck accent, but from a humor standpoint. Rugrat used to be portrayed as a fun loving, goofy redneck guy, and it was great. Now he’s just a normal guy and much of the humor doesn’t translate well with Neil’s narration.

I saw another review that stated, "You have to remember that the old narrator has become very popular and is busy with other books soo the author has decided that instead of having us wait until next year,” but I don’t think that’s very correct. Todd has 70 books narrated on Audible, whereas Neil has 270 books, and I constantly see new books coming out that Neil works on. Perhaps narrating is a side gig for Todd and a full time job for Neil? Not sure, but Neil does a great job, and since many have already stated he is going to go back and redo the first 5 books for consistency, I’m good with the change.

If you’re a fan of this series, I continue to recommend it. I’ve loved all of these books.

Change of voice actor

Changing voice actors mid series always tends to ruin it for me. Besides that it's a good story. I will just not be getting the audible version anymore.

A good read if the narration was a bit better

Okay the narrator is alright but honestly, he reads a little fast and glazes over important details
The story itself is adequate however if this narrator is staying on i hope he is aloud proper time to record so we can be immersed in the story

Why change the narrator?

Is it about money? Changing the narrator almost always sucks. Bring back the original. Anybody can read but only a few can breathe life into a audible.
