About this listen

From critically acclaimed author Alice Oseman comes a smartly crafted contemporary YA novel, perfect for fans who love Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl. This is an utterly captivating and authentic teen novel from the author of Solitaire, which VOYA said “could put her among the great young adult fiction authors.”

Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying.

Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As.

You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl.

They don’t. They make a podcast.

In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year. Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

Simply Exceptional, Kala is Spectacular!

What an exceptional story. The characters are unique, and so interesting.

If you have the chance to listen to this one in audio, definitely grab it! Aysha Kala is amazing! Their smooth and lovely voice is an absolute pleasure to listen to, and they come up with such creative and unique voices for each character. A really fantastic performance.

Amazing

Best story of friendship I’ve read in years. I was moved by the realism of the emotional abuse of alend.

tense, well written story, wonderfully performed

This book had me hooked from the first few seconds. Alice has a way of introducing multiple simultaneous mysteries into their novels that just keeps you on edge the whole time. I was genuinely concerned for the characters throughout. Most impressively, they have a way of making deeply committed, yet often messy, friendships the most interesting and important part of their books. Also, the voices/narration done by Aysha Kala were exceptional. Not once was I ever confused about who was speaking. Aysha had such beautiful emotion in the narration it was fully immersive to me. I truly loved this book from start to finish.

This book is absolutely amazing

I familiar to the authors work, and I am just absolutely amazed by this work. I came from reading/watching heartstopper, and always kind of
Saw Alad as a side character. This brings a whole new perspective of this character and it makes me so happy.

Cozy and relatable

The story was relatively with how friendships usually start and the characters had feelings that everyone has felt at some point. The narrator is the perfect pick for the main character and is so smooth I sleep listening to this book often. The story is unique but normal at the same time. I wish universal city was actually real.

This book was so great, so real and true to life!

I loved this book immensely and related to many parts of it - podcast related stuff as someone who has created a couple of podcasts myself, people ghosting others, the portrayal of an abusive mother, being worried someone you care for may be acting on suicidal thoughts, being good in school but having fandom interests in private, etc. I loved all the acceptance of various queer identities and the demisexuality was a big part of why I read it (I'm interested in reading a lot of things with a variety of ace and aro representation). The focus on friendship and insignificance of romance throughout the book was so refreshing, and the main friendship felt a lot like a queerplatonic partnership to me.

the book was wonderful and I'd highly recommend it :)
