About this listen

The first book of the smash-hit Wayward Pines trilogy, from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter, Recursion, and Upgrade

One way in. No way out.

Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a mission: locate two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase.

As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation turns up more questions than answers: Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out?

Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan farther from the world he knew, from the man he was, until he must face a horrifying fact—he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

The nail-bitingly suspenseful opening installment in Blake Crouch’s blockbuster Wayward Pines trilogy, Pines is at once a brilliant mystery tale and the first step into a genre-bending saga of suspense, science fiction, and horror.

Tremendous story

What a great story. Had me guessing the whole time, and never even contemplated the truth. Loved it!

Good story, decent narration.

The more I read Crouch the more I can predict what he will write, which I guess is kinda normal but it feels… lame. That’s the best way I know how to put it. If this were the first book I read by him, I would have been super impressed. However, this not being the case, the book was slightly predictable.
Not a dig, just how I felt. Overall the story kept me interested, and the narration was decent enough. Worth a read if you like Crouch’s stuff.

Good premise, poor balance

The premise is intriguing and enough that I’ll keep going with the trilogy, but the endless chapters devoted to being on the run and rock climbing details were tedious.

Great book, superior narration

I read these books years ago and loved them, but was thrilled to see that they were on audible now.
Even more than that the story itself, as an avid consumer of audiobooks I’m very aware that the narrator can make or break a book, and this narrator is stellar!!

The strongest of the three

I love the mystery and twists in this. It keeps you guessing until the end, hanging on to every sentence longing to know wtf is happening. You are really pulled into the protagonists shoes and feel his confusion and anxiety.

Story is catchy and full of adventures!

Amazing one. Definitely Dark Matter stands out more, but i recomend this one. Like a movie in your head.
Narrator 10/10. Good job.

Unexpected

I really liked the book, keeps you tense and waiting for new plot-twists, Very good, except a few things that are a bit "not thought through" imo, but other than that it was very good.

Can't wait to read the next part

If an AI trained on the Twilight Zone and the Safdie brothers wrote a book

Entertaining enough but ultimately a mischmash of Sci-fi tropes put together without the addition of anything new or fresh. I would liked to have given 3.5 stars; 3 feels harsh but it just doesn’t feel deserving of a 4. Beverly was the only likable character for me and I didn’t particularly like the performers voice. The stories resolution did make me less annoyed with some aspects of the the book, but it didn’t feel like a satisfying climax.
