About this listen

Librarian Syd Murphy flees the carnage of a failed marriage by accepting an 18-month position in Jericho - a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. Her plans to hide out and heal her wounds fall by the wayside as she gets drawn into the daily lives of the quirky locals. She becomes fast friends with Maddie Stevenson, the enigmatic physician who has returned to the backcountry community to take over her late father's medical practice. Together they learn that life and love can have as many twists and turns as a country road.

Great chemistry between characters w/LOL moments

Good story with lots of colorful characters and interesting plot lines. Really liked the chemistry between Mattie and Syd. While I know the story continues into the book Aftermath, I almost wish McMan had decided to expand on and flush out several of the storylines more completely. Ultimately I think this could have been split things up into 2 books. Might have read smoother in the last 1/3 of the book where there was a lot going on and things being brushed over. That said, I still highly recommend this book as a great listen. Found myself relating to many things. 👍👍

Best in the class

It's something really special in the class. Good plot, interesting characters, humorous and not dull in a moment... It's quite intriguing to follow changes in 'straight' personality to some kind of 'flexible', but actually based on true love to outstanding person.
I think that higher in the class might be only something like The Price of Salt, but you know it's pretty dumb to compare them)

This was amazing

I was afraid I will not be able to listen to this long long book, 21 hours is a chunk of time. But I couldn't let it go... I had to listen to all of it. It was a wonderful story, great characters and amazing narrating. As I already have the next two books on my iPad, I could go directly to the next one.

Intelligent and Delightful

Okay I don’t get all the snooty cultural references and somewhat elitist perspective, but I do appreciate the wit and wholesome yet sexy romance and the world of engaging characters who populate this series. Looking forward to the second book. Generous hours of intelligent and entertaining listening pleasure! Five stars!

I stumbled across this title while perusing the Audible Plus catalog. Loved it! I appreciated the small town of Jericho and the people who know everyone’s business. Was thrilled to find 2 more books in this series!

Brilliant blue eyes, startling green eyes?

How many times does one stare and contemplate and consider and realize the eyes of the other person. On and on and on. Just couldn’t continue . Cute story but there must have been another way to write the attraction.

Smart, complicated and not one to put down

Story so believable. Characters very well developed. The author makes sure you can see and smell this place. Narrator also A . There is a gay thread to the story but that isn’t the strength of it. It is about a place and the people who live and live there
