About this listen

An all-new creepy fantasy series from the New York Times best-selling author of Asylum.

After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, 17-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house.

But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Far from a place of rest, the house is a place of judgment, and Mr. Morningside and his unusual staff are meant to execute their own justice on those who are past being saved.

Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure who to trust?

An excellent read, by B.G. Wow!

This a great story, how it weaves everything together: The flashbacks and the present. I highly recommend this if anyone is looking for a story fully fleshed out with characters that grow on you!
Madeleine Roux is awesome writer and wants to take you on an adventure! Please read!

Incomplete

Some of this was interesting, but overall it just felt incomplete. There were extraneous details / plot points that seemed useless filler and then very large holes in what could have been an interesting story. The narrator was pretty good with accents and voices.

I didn't like the narrator

The narrator's accents need serious work. Story was good though. At least what I was able to listen to of it.

Whoa..!

I didn’t know if I would really like this book all that much but I loved it! I’ve already got the next book and the rest is in my wish list and my ears are patiently awaiting me to hurry up and keep listening so I can get to the next one!!!! The ending got me hard! I kept trying to be a detective during the book to figure out each character that visited Coldthistle house, some I got wrong but some I got right and it’s such fun! Can’t wait to continue listening to the next one!

predictable with no real consequences

it was competently written but unoriginal. there are no real conflicts because every sacrifice is somehow undone by a deus ex machina

good story lacking performance

I found the performance was lacking due to the performer putting the wrong voice inflections in character speech as well as doing the same accent for different charters of different ages. it made it a little confusing.
I loved the story though.

One heck of A writer

Amazing storyteller, crisp defined characters, and awesome pacing. Narration sounded a little to cheerful for the subject matter, yet didn't detract from the haunting and original story. Worth a credit.

Captivating

Absolutely amazing! Between the story itself and the performance of the reader, I had a hard time leaving the car to go into work. Absolutely shocking, exciting and thrilling to the very end!
