People are the problem. They're always the problem. If a business person goes home frustrated, if they talk with their significant other about it, if they lay awake at night stewing about it, inevitably the problem is some person at work - a colleague, subordinate, or boss. Handling people issues is every leader's major headache. It's what takes up the majority of their time and - more important - the bulk of their head space. Every leader can and must develop this most important of all management skills.

Story
The Fearless Organization offers practical guidance for teams and organizations who are serious about success in the modern economy. With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talent, but what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of "fitting in" and "going along" spells doom in the knowledge economy. Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule, or intimidate.

Story
They actually have vastly different styles and backgrounds. Yet despite their differences, great managers share one common trait: They don’t hesitate to break virtually every rule held sacred by conventional wisdom. They don’t believe that, with enough training, a person can achieve anything he sets his mind to. They don’t try to help people overcome their weaknesses. And, yes, they even play favorites. In this longtime management bestseller, Gallup presents the remarkable findings of its massive in-depth study of great managers.

Story
As Howard Gardner argues in the groundbreaking classic Frames of Mind, to limit our understanding of intelligence to “book smarts” misses much of what makes human beings amazing. Someone who plays an instrument well is exhibiting intelligence. So, too, someone who knows how to do physical comedy—is their mastery of their movements and the space around them not brilliant? And to have a profound knowledge of their own self, their relationships with others, and relationships between others, too, is to show great intelligence as well.

Great book for those looking ahead in HR, not stuck in the past
I read the negative reviews for this audio book before purchasing. Those reviews are people working in HR (or Personnel as Steve referred to) driven by policy, black or white, reactive administrators. Not to be harsh, but those resistant to change would not like this book based on that.
Steve Browne talks about bringing the human aspect back in HR. It’s extremely refreshing to get his take on how HR has developed and is more of a partner to the business. He talks about how employees should be valued, listened to as a proactive nurturing approach to HR. I’ve been in HR for 7 years, focusing on Talent Acquisition mainly and I loved his softened approach.

Enjoyable book about the HR profession
Lots of nuts and bolts tips and anecdotes designed for HR professionals. I’m a business owner so this wasn’t exactly written for me but it was quite enjoyable and the author was very likable. Five star listen.

Great story, stuffy narrator
This was the book I needed to recharge my mindset within HR. We can feel alone sometimes and often question why we do what we do and this book is exactly the reasons.
The narrator sounded stuffy the entire book which was distracting personally. There were some things that would have crossed over better with reading the physical book.
