About this listen

Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio. Troubled by this change in the natural order, Billy makes it far enough out onto his porch to ask Grace why she doesn't sit inside, where it's safe. Her answer: "If I sit inside, then nobody will know I'm in trouble. And then nobody will help me." Her answer changes everything.

By the best-selling author of When You Were Older and Pay It Forward, Don't Let Me Go is the heartbreaking, funny, and life-affirming story of a building full of loners and misfits who come together to help a little girl survive--and thrive--against all odds.

Great read

I loved this book and all Catherine Ryan Hyde books. I hate for them to end. The characters feel like family. You will never forget her books. You keep them with you after the story ends. Renewing and uplifting 🌻

Very interesting

Very interesting read since it's told from a child's viewpoint. Kept me interested through the whole book. Would definitely read more by this author!!

Another great read by this author

Loved it! Wonderful job of narration.. Characters are very real. How 1 little girl brought about a change in so many lives, including her own. And you don't have to be related to be like family.

Really enjoyed this one!

What did you love best about Don't Let Me Go?

I liked the characters, and their quirkiness. They made me laugh out loud, and want to cry sometimes too. Grace's perceptions and thoughts were really insightful. I was hesitant going in, but ended up really loving this book. Highly recommend.

Narrator lacking, off...

The story was heartwarming, but the male narrator really seemed off and distracted me from the story.

Enchanting story, well performed!

Touching story about how life should be and how we should love and help each other. Characters were very real but all were brought together by an amazing child. Loved this book.

Any additional comments?

Great entertainment, the author does a wonderful job of making the reader really feel solidly connected to the characters. I wish I could see the characters live on stage! Thank you Ms Hyde for the clean language and for knowing that an innuendo is sufficient in getting the point across. Despite including some really tough social issues, this book is never rude or vulgar. Both readers were a perfect selection for this work!
