About this listen

Once he was my enemy. Now, he's my boss.

Rich, successful, viciously gorgeous, and sinisterly brutal, Alistair Black is every bit his last name.

Morally black. Inky black heart. Devious black soul.

In college, we were enemies. Rivals. Bully vs bully. I almost ruined his life.

Now, ten years later, our paths cross again when I'm forced to work under him.

And he hasn't at all forgotten or forgiven me for what I did to him back at school.

Now he's my brooding, emotionally unavailable boss with the body of a god.

And I'm his plaything.

The target of his malice and revenge. The one from whom he wants to hear "yes, sir," and nothing else.

Years ago, I thought I was done with Alistair Black.

But it turns out, he's nowhere near done with me…

Devious Vow is a standalone dark mafia, grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers romance with a smart, untamable heroine, and an ultra possessive hero with "look at her and I'll unalive you" energy. No cliffhanger. HEA included. For mature listeners.

Enemies to lovers

Enemies to lovers and workplace romance? Oh, and they were enemies who once had a genuine connection when they were in college.

Alistair and Eloise hated each other. Well, he hated her and she tried to hate him. But when she ended up working for him, the sparks between them were still there.

The lies and secrets that came out — wow, I wasn’t expecting some of them.

Alistair may have been cruel, but the man was obsessed and very protective. And not only of Eloise, but his family as well. And the two of them were so good together.

This was dark, spicy, a little emotional, and full of suspense.

The narrators did a great job! Also, Emery Erickson had an accent for her character, and her performance was fantastic.

Captivating!

This is the first book in the Venomous Gods Series. Alistair and Eloise’s story is captivating, and passionate, filled with secrets, danger, and twists and turns. They are both interesting characters. The supporting characters are great. I liked this enemies to lovers romance. Walker Williams and Emery Erickson did an outstanding job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to more in the series. #Valentineprlm

Adored Eloise and Alistair’s story!

Jagger Cole is one of the best at enemies to lovers and Devious Vow was no exception. Throw in a workplace romance and second chance love and you’ve got one tension filled steamy romance. I feel like the odds have been stacked against Alastair and Eloise their whole relationship and they had some massive hurdles to overcome in this story. Plus, we’re fighting against the disgusting vial nature of Eloise’s husband as well (PS I do not consider this a cheating trope because of this reason) and her psychotic sister. Eloise has endured so much despite some terrible miscommunication issues between her and Alistair from their early years romance so it was great to have them break down each others walls as they are forced to work together at Alistair’s law firm. The tension and spice and angst between these two 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 so hot! Jagger put a few twists and turns and this one that really added to the story and I was surprised by the final “villain” that our couple had to deal with. I was totally rooting for these two and I was very satisfied with the ended. I also did the audiobook of this one and I thought Walker Williams did an awesome job with Alistair’s prickly nature and Emery Erickson very much embodied Eloise!

I did not want to put this down!

Wow I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this! Putting it down for real life things was painful! 😂

Alistair and Elouise have a sorted past but haven't seen each other in 10 years. So when Elouise moves back to New York married to a psychotic Mafia boss, Massimo, who happens to be Alistair's biggest client, the past comes barreling back into their lives. But to add insult to injury, the law firm is forced to hire Elouise as a new associate by Massimo and that forces their proximity impossible to ignore.

Their forced proximity unravels the truth and makes their past connection electric like a live wire as they just can't resist each other no matter how hard they try. But there are dark, malicious powers working against them from every angle, and as the story progresses, each twist and turn is wilder than the last!

Walker Williams and Emery Erickson were amazing! I've heard them both on separate titles but they played so well together in this series and I hope they do the rest of the books as well! And the accents that each of them did for various characters was done so well it felt seamless. Fantastic performances!

second chance at love

Devious Vows is the second book in the Venomous Gods series but my first book by Jagger Cole. It was easy to follow along. The story of Alistair and Eloise captured my attention from the blurb alone—it's why I signed up for an ALC. They are both forced to be reckoned with.

Alistair is dominant as a lawyer and as an underground fighter. Eloise sustains an unwanted marriage dealing with an abusive husband for her sister (who doesn't even deserve it). Their chemistry is off the charts. Alistair may be an a-hole but Eloise knows how to handle it.

New To Me Author

This is my first book by Jagger Cole, and I probably would have enjoyed this book much more if I read it vs listening because I wasn't a huge fan of the male narrator's voice, unfortunately.
I will say, I really liked the forbidden aspect of this story! I couldn't wait to see how the FMC and MMC would be caught, but the suspenseful part of the story was compelling as well. Ultimately, the storyline did not disappoint, but the performance slightly did.

I will most likely read another book by this author in the future!
