About this listen

Firefly meets The Fast and the Furious in this science fiction adventure series that follows a crew of outcasts as they try to find a legendary ship that just might be the key to saving the universe.

A washed-up treasure hunter, a hotshot racer, and a deadly secret society.

They're all on a race against time to hunt down the greatest warship ever built. Some think the ship is lost forever, some think it's been destroyed, and some think it's only a legend, but one thing's for certain: whoever finds it will hold the fate of the universe in their hands. And treasure that valuable can never stay hidden for long....

Listen to the audiobook that V. E. Schwab called "A clever fusion of magic and sci-fi. I was hooked from page one."

Some good ideas, poorly executed.

Overall, not the worst book I ever listened to, but no where near the best. I thought the plot was good, and the magic mixed with sci-fi elements was good. Other than that, the character development/interaction/dialogue was bad. The narration was iffy. Added up, I don't want to flame this book, but I am also not going any farther in the series.

Excellent storytelling.

The narration is flat, but the story itself is amazing. Don't let poor casting color your opinion of the plot.

Entertaining

This may not have been the best book I’ve listened to but I thought it was a decent listen. Fast paced and interesting mix of Sci-Fi and Magic.
Thanks

Sci Fi Page Turner

I loved the non stop action and the mix of magic into the universe. The author did a wonderful job of making magic both potent and arcane at the same time, with power and limits. Also, I found the main characters, all women, fascinating, especially their forceful dialog. This book had a great plot, a villain named Mother, space battles, a love story, racing, unusual food, all delivered as if it's the natural order of stories. I can't wait for the 2nd book in the series to be published on Audible.

Not a bad story

I would expect that I'd have enjoyed this more than I did. It was fun enough and relatively novel, magic and sci-fi in an interesting blend, but I found myself regularly losing interest.

The audiobook is frustrating because at least one character is *clearly* written as British (or whatever fantasy world equates to British here), with obvious Britishism regularly injected into the dialog—at one point they even pointedly express confusion about "the can" before realizing it means "the loo"—and yet the reader read every character with the same bland and indistinguishable American accent. For such a dynamic and colorful world, the reading was pretty blah. It may have contributed to my disinterest. It wasn't outright BAD reading but it wasn't very good either and ignoring obvious speech pattern cues is annoying.

A great blend of Fast and the Furious Star Wars

This space opera takes off from the first minute and never slows down. Great characters, realistic relationships, intense action, and a well thought out ending make for a great listen. Don't miss out on this one.

Alex White.

I feel like Cold Forge was a much better use of the author's talent. Still prduction and voice talent were top notch.

plot ok, narrator not great

Found the narrator very off-putting, not bad enough to dnf, but enough that I think it colored my view of the story

The story was well formed and easy to follow. characters would likeable and mostly believable. overall the storyline was simple entertaining characters were likeable. villains could have developed more and could have had a greater part in the story.
